A December Day in Tenby

Dec 14, 2024 23:19

Walked along the coast path from Tenby to Waterwynch Bay : up past the hotels and grand apartment blocks of The Croft, a name that echoes a farm that must have vanished over two hundred years ago from the magnificent Victorianness of the current road, which quickly dwindles to a narrow footpath, much beset with storm-fallen foliage.

After twenty minutes or so I reached a path that led to the sea, and randomly followed it to Waterwynch Bay, a beautiful stretch of yellow sand overlooked by a single monstrous holiday home.

There was a sign up on the coast path suggesting that it was possible to walk from Waterwynch back to Tenby along the beach at some low tides, and since it was 20 minutes past the low when I got there, and a full moon too, I decided to gamble on it being possible today.

We made it!

It was such a lovely day, we went on to visit the two lifeboat stations (one old, one new) where once a Walrus flolloped. Sadly no Walrus today, but Theo decided, in an excitable manner, that we'd been so successful dodging the tide, we should go on right round the Castle. By this time we were nearly an hour past the low tide. We made it... barely! I had to wait for the waves to roll out in the last little cove, then sprint across the sand before the tide came back.

Lots of dogs on Castle Beach, so I think he was keen to go join in bouncing with them.

It was a freezing cold day, but I was quite warm by the time we'd made it back to the car park, so we nipped into the car park cafe. Very good carrot cake, and they also gave Theo a treat, though I think in this photo he's looking at me horrified that I didn't give him any cake.

We were in Tenby for a tiny games event that had a mini painting competition. Pp had put some of his painted minis in. He won a few bronzes and a Highly Commended, and got some tips. He is determined to return and do better next year. I went to a workshop about worldbuilding.

Technically this is @chainmailmaiden's Eddy,in the middle there, but Pp painted it.

It was dark by the time we left, and so we got to see the lights across the water.
