I just took a backup of my entire LJ, including all the 3000+ photos and comments, using Bookblogger. The result is a massive 724Mb PDF file.

I very much hope that the rumours that the Russian internet will be cut off from the rest of us by a virtual Iron Curtain are untrue. That would be a grim thing, even if the fact that we can all talk so ( Read more... )

Yes, I did the standard paid account option at 22 quid, because that promised to include photos at full quality, and it did get most of them, except where I had posted several photos in a row with no text between them, where it caught the first photo in the list.

Dreamwidth's image handling is out of the ark, unfortunately. You can upload photos to dreamwidth via https://www.dreamwidth.org/file/edit but the standard hosting is only 500Mb and then you have to copy the URL across, like in the antique days of Photobucket or whatever. Someone recommended flickr to me as an image host, and I've liked their way of doing things in the past.

Usually when I import stuff from LJ to Dreamwidth, it copies the image URL across. The image itself is still hosted on LJ's servers. I just looked at your journal on DW, and I can see the photos, so it looks like that worked - of course if LJ does go away, then so will the pics :-(

But I hope not! I can't see that LJ being available to everyone makes any difference to the war in Ukraine.

Oh that's good to know that it reproduced photos well. The images finally did come over from LJ, but then they disappeared. Now they're back again, so must have to do with LJ's server. I'll figure out how to deal with uploading the images. Baranduin said she does it from her computer, so I poked around and found the link on DW. However, as you know, it requires filling out the sizes. I remember we used to have to do that on LJ, so I'll just have to figure it out again. The whole Ukraine situation is utterly heartbreaking and is pretty much impacting everyone to some degree. Thanks for the help.
