Tall Ships

I just randomly stumbled across the existence of the gaff-topsail schooner J.R. Tolkien  and the three masted schooner Loth Loriën

A little odd that the Loth Loriën, although pretty enough in her way, is nothing like as stunning a little ship as the  J.R. Tolkien, which I think just has THE most gorgeous lines.  Wow ( Read more... )

I still remember visiting the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo years ago and realising "Oh, so that's what the swan ships were meant to look like (with swan rather than dragon prows, of course)."

Viking ships are glorious, the shape of them! There's just something about a clinker-built boat that produces the most amazing lines.

Yes, it was lovely, almost as interesting as the outdoor museum with traditional buildings.

I haven't been to that one, although I have been to equivalents in Iceland and Wales.
