Thanks for the numbers.

I'm not debating the impact of the black vote, I'm saying that this is the first black canidate who could carry it in that area. Jackson only got 25% of the vote during the 1984 primary here, He claimed victory for getting the 11% of black first-time voters who came to the polls, but it wasn't enough to put him anywhere close to contention. Whether Obama's win came from getting more black voters, more white voters or both, I think his win says a lot for the fact that he is perceived as serious presidential canidate, rather than just being the black canidate.

Also did you see the voter numbers? Holy wow! They've doubled. Having your vote actually count for something sure did bring people out! Living in NC my vote for president is usually wasted, as NC is an automatic 'red state'.

I actually forgot to vote for president in 2000, I double-checked my local votes, but realized I'd left the presidental vote blank after I had already cast my ballot. Now, for the first time ever, I'm beginning to be hopeful that I might actually have some say in who gets to be president this year. It's a nice change.
