Cosmos Episode II covers selection, both artificial and natural. The other week I was asked by A.: "Where did the first person come from?". I suspect the god-squadders got to him, so this was an appropriate thing for us to watch together, even if long and overwhelming.
I'm reminded of jsam's quote: "Never give up the chance to make someone else's mind up for them".
Also of a question I think I recall being put to the Pope recently: "If there is intelligent life on other worlds, will the Church baptize it?"
Also, Wikipedia tells me that we only discovered the first helicase, responsible for unzipping the DNA double helix, in 1979. So much still to learn!
