Holiday

I have not-so-recently returned from two enjoyable weeks on holiday. This continues a series of trips this year in which location is far less important that the people involved.
T., A. and I flew off to a destination whose location is unimportant, to enjoy some late summer time together, and we did. There was a lot of driving and plenty of beach time. We wandered around old streets, looked at old churches and castles. We splashed at the beach and enjoyed the sun. We ate pizza and drank coffee - all the usual, ordinary, things. Celebrated a birthday, mourned a loss. But we did it together which was good for each of us:
  • A. improved his English (if my Germanized Strine still counts as such) and demonstrated new abilities to cajole for ice-cream and sustain himself on a swing.
  • I had time to talk about such weighty matters as the Three Little Pigs, burglar alarms, and the criminal justice system.
  • T. got to swim and play with her old pre-digital Canon.
Time apart from each other is important and necessary to get things done (I've recently caught up on some filing at home, which invariably reduces me to a grouch), but time together is priceless.
