well, hmmmm whats up, well I have been working on Streetcar named Desire, its actually pretty good, the Stanley and Blanche have worked a bit, and y'all may have seen them
Jonno Roberts plays Stanley, and he is a goofball, but very nice. and
Angela Pierce is a darling and I love her, she is soooooo nice.
The tech week was, strenuous... a lot of the same problems, mostly caused but strange expectations on the part of the management. It is a huge set built of steel and welded in the space but they only had 6 days Total to get it installed. oh and running. though in the end the house never moved... Thank god. (it was supposed to move up and down stage but the motor was not strong enough and they didn't install any guides, or have a knife to keep it from drifting... which when we finally got it to work it drifted 4 inches SR of where it was supposed to be.)
It is sort of sad we don't get meal penalty all weekend, as we would have if we had to reset the house .... anyway.
its open, and we no longer cry everyday... much.
there were 2 (that I know about) failures to take into consideration the cost of labor. 1. they bought 3 telephone poles to intall for background, actually honest to god telephone poles, which you can buy cheap... about 6 bucks each. now they weigh about 300 to 400 pounds a piece and to safely rig them so they do not come down and kill an actor, stagehand or god forbid a patron, takes about 5 hours and 6 to 8 stagehands... at $16 an hour... or they could have gotten sauna (I know that isn't how it is spelled) tube (the cardboard forms they use for concrete) and they could have been installed by 2 stagehands in 1/2 hour (each) if the telephone poles are still cheaper... we don't get paid enough... not to mention the things you can get done instead of installing telephone poles.
The other thing, was very similar... but we suspect the prop master lied, so she could learn to make something cool. So, we use 1 breakaway bottle per show. It was decided a props artisan would make the bottles in house, since the materials cost about $4 per bottle. And the prop master said to buy the bottles pre-made cost $25 a bottle. This sounded a little fishy to me, so, I looked it up. they range from $12 to $15.50 with the local theatrical supply store carrying them for $17.50. there would be some risk of breakage in transit... but they would be uniform in size, weight and color. and be done. instead we have an artisan do it, tops she can produce is 6 to 8 a day, they are of uneven quality, and it takes her away from other things that did not get done, plus she was still making bottles long after the show had opened and she was supposed to be doing other things.
I wasn't even going to talk about this, but other things... oh well
