CSI - 12x04 Maid Man

I am really loving CSI again! If you stopped watching because it became the Super!Ray show, then you should tune in again. Grissom isn't back and Sara isn't always in every episode but the humor is back, the characters (and actors) seem like they're enjoying themselves again, and D.B. is quirky enough that I can watch even if Brass is AWOL. Plus, Brass' hair is nearly an inch long, which is much better than the barely there cut he had the past two seasons.

This episode starts off at the new mob museum in Vegas. In addition to the long time mayor of Las Vegas, Oscar Goodman, we also see that Vegas has a new sheriff, Sherry Linson, and that a wax figure of Lou Gedda is included in the museum and Sam Braun gets a mention. Of course Greg is there with his vast knowledge of Vegas mob history.

Brass shows up at the B case, a maid found dead in a Prince's hotel room, a swizzle stick in her eye. Ew. He's the only detective in the show (yay!) so that means he also gets to work both cases. Personally, this is the way I like CSI: with Brass as the only detective. And now that PG looks better and seems much happier, he's back to his old snarky, flirty self. Did I say flirty? I'll get to that in a minute. Back to the B case.

Brass is in the hotel room with Nick and Morgan when his phone rings and he has to go talk to the Prince. Morgan wonders if the prince is a rapper and asks if he's East coast or West coast. Brass says more like Middle East then says that his Prince is waiting - at the gaming table so he'll practice his curtsy on the way to the elevator. As he says this, he's going through the curtsy motion. Now that's the Brass I know and love.

The next Brass scene is probably the best one. Remember when I said flirty? Joanne Sapphire, wife of mob guy Vinnie Sapphire, is in Brass's office. Vinnie disappeared something like 20 years ago but it's obvious Joanne knows Jim. Calling him "Brassy" was our first clue.

Joanne wants to know if Brassy found Vinnie. Jim says no, but they found his gun (it was used to shoot Oscar at the museum). Brass says maybe Vinnie not getting included in the museum was a reason to put a couple of holes in Oscar and Joanne says not to look at her, she likes Oscar. Brass laughs and says "yeah" like he really believes that one. Apparently, Oscar refused to rep Vinnie because he didn't see any good in Vinnie. Brass says right, good guys don't need lawyers then asks about Joanne. Joanne says Vinnie bailed on her 20 years ago and if he walked in right now, she'd tell him the same thing she's telling Brass: Just stuff it. She then tells Brass that she'll give him a tip:
Joanne: If that bastard needed help with anything like taking out the mayor, you should do what Vinnie always did…look for a new piece of ass.
Jim: I just never understood how Vinnie could leave you.
Joanne: that’s because you’re a gentleman. She stands up and comes to lean over the desk. Brass does the same and they are just a few inches apart.
Joanne: look I’ve gotta get back to my crap job. If you ever find yourself in the vicinity of Tom’s Bar on the Corbel, why don’t you stop in. I’ll refill that bottle of whiskey you keep in your drawer.
And with that Brass gives her the cutest, flirtiest smile ever! The man definitely has a way with the ladies. Then again, Catherine did say that back in the day, he was a player and it looks like he's still got some of it in him. Of course I knew it all the time.

As it turns out, Joanne isn't innocent in all this and when Brass sees her one last time, he rests his hand over hers. And once again, someone who might have a spark with Brass is off to jail.

In addition to the Brassy goodness, there's also some pretty funny D.B. and Greg moments where D.B. is yelling for Greg whenever he has a question. I do like that D.B. respects Greg's knowledge of old Vegas mob history and I like that the others think D.B. is a little weird and haven't quite embraced his quirkiness. I'm also liking Morgan. She's not a newbie to being a CSI but she is a newbie to Vegas and I like that. It's also interesting how they've increased Ecklie's role in the show after he was almost non existent for several seasons.
