So! Although I haven't seen V for 12 days, I've been calling every day so I can talk to her. She's now sitting up, and very keen on solid food; milk really doesn't impress her at all. We started her on solid food at 5.5 months; the breastfeeding mafia (as I've heard it called) would have it that babies have to breastfeed exclusively until 6 months ( Read more... )

Thank you! :)
Yup, it is a bit of a mafia. The timing, the positions, the duration, etc etc. There's also the How To Put Your Baby Down To Sleep rules. Have you had that? "On no acocunt let the baby fall asleep in your arms after a feed! That way lies madness! The child will never sleep any other way! She'll be a teenager and still needing to fall asleep in your arms! No! Put her in the cot drowsy but awake and stand there, rooping like a very weary flag while she cries! Pick her up and pat her back to drowsiness! Repeat until you fall down dead!" Bother that for a lark. After trying that for 1.5 hours when K was wee, I let her fall asleep in my arms every time. She was happy, I was happy and she is such an easy sleeper now. Suck on that, mafia! Also, my thumbs are permanently screwed from the way they encouraged me to hold K when I was breastfeeding her.

My guess will be that she'll be easier with baby sitters later when she becomes more interactive and therefore visitors become more interesting than just being unfamiliar looking pink blobs. Anyway, I hope so :)
