Coin Toss - Chapter 002.0

Hoshi woke seeing flowers beside her bed. She got up and saw someone Daiki. She grabbed the flowers beside her and handed it back to him.

“It’s a get well soon present.” Daiki told.
“I don’t need it.” She handed it back.
“Why not? Don’t you like flowers.” He questioned.

Hoshi then remembered her father giving her and Shaini flowers whenever they get home from school as well as her mother, tearing up as she thought about it.

“Everyone deserves a flower you know?” Daiki started. “For being a strong fighter.” He added.

Hoshi stared at him. Daiki then took the flowers and placed them back on the table beside her bed.

“Here, I brought you some food as well. I know you’re not enjoying the food here as much as what you usually eat.” Daiki told.
“I’m more worried about Shaini.” She mumbled as she stared at the food.

Daiki prepared her food and placed them on a tray, handing it to her in the table.

“Here you go.” Daiki moved the table in front of her.
“What’s this for?” she stared at the food. “I mean we hardly know each other.” Hoshi questioned. “Yes, you saved my life, but you’re bring me food and flowers out of nowhere. What’s the catch?” she figured.

Daiki remained silent.

“I know there’s a catch. Who would do such nice things to a complete stranger anyway? If you’re worried about -“
“I want you to by my friend’s personal assistant.” Daiki cut her off.

Hoshi gave him a serious look.

“ME?! ME!? WHY!?”

“You’re pretty spunky. Plus, with that attitude of yours, you might be ablet to teach that brat a lesson.” Daiki explained.
“What am I? A teacher?” Hoshi sarcastically questioned. “I’m not qualified to be an assistant! I didn’t even go to college! I’ve been working at a grocery store since I graduated from High School!” she replied. “Teach him a lesson? What for? You know what his qualities are. You teach him a lesson. What is he? An arrogant self centered a good for nothing inconsiderate idiot?” she added.

Daiki kept quiet.

“He is, isn’t he?” she figured.
“Hoshi, I’m the one hiring you here. You don’t need to have all those qualifications you think you might need. You just need to do what he wants you to do. That’s all. Except for some training of course. Everything you need before you start working will be provided for you.” Daiki explained.
“I don’t know. People like your friend are really frustrating.”
“Hoshi, please? Everyone I’ve hired are always getting fired. You’re my only hope!’
“No kidding. With an inconsiderate brat like him? I’ll be getting fired too.”
“Please Hoshi!” he begged.
“If I get this job and I get fired. Where am I gonna get the money to support my sister huh?”
“I’ll take care of it.”
“NO!” she quickly replied. “I’m not one to rely on others especially when it comes to money.
“Fine, then who’s gonna help you with the bills here?”
“I’ll figure something out.”

Hoshi ate her food.

“All you need to do is do what he asks you. Errands, make copies, make his coffee.. you just do what he requests you to do to make his day easier. As long as you’re organized and can multi-task, you’re fine.”
“Make his day easier? Let me guess he’s lazy. Plus, I’m not a slave.”
“No. He’s just busy with his company.”

Daiki’s phone then rang.

“I’m getting impatient Daiki.” Kei tapped his fingers on his desk.
“I’m working on it okay? Go be impatient some more. Bye.” Daiki hung up the phone.

“Let me guess. That was him.” Hoshi continued eating her food.

Daiki gave a hesitant smile as Hoshi chewed on her food with a sigh.

“I’ll be back tomorrow.” Daiki left the room.

The doctor then entered the room.

“Hey doc, any news on when I’ll be discharged from here?” Hoshi questioned.
“Well, everything is going smoothly. Your wound is healing quite perfectly. You should be able to leave in a few days or so.” The doctor replied.
“That’s great.”
“It’s a good think Daiki brought you here on time or else, it would have been too late.”
“Daiki?” she heard his name.
“That’s right. The one that brought you here. I’m sure you know who I’m talking about.” He chatted.
“Yeah….” She tried not to remember.
“You two make a wonderful coulple. You two are a couple right?” he asked her. ”I witness him bringing flowers here everything. It’s the first time he’s shown concern on someone in such a long time.”

Hoshi looked at the flowers he brought in for the day.

“Oh, we’re not a couple. We’re just acquaintances.” She replied.
“Really now? That’s too bad. Oh well I guess.” He told. “Anyway, thank you for taking care of my son. I hope you take good care of him so more in the future. That boy tends to get carried away and do some things without any thought.”

‘No wonder. He’s doing the same to me now! I guess this is his dad. Wow. They look alike. I feel sorry for him for some reason. What am I thinking?’ she thought to herself.

“Alright, everything is good. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to call the nurse okay?” The doctor left.

“I guess that idiot is his son.” She started. “Should I take up on that offer?” She asked herself.

Someone then knocked on the door.

“Come in.” Hoshi told.

The door slid open as someone familiar stepped inside the room with a basket of fruits.

“Erin.” Hoshi shockingly called her.

Erin let out a smile as she handed the basket of fruit to her.

“What are you doing here? Are you off today?” Hoshi started.
“Actually, I quit. I just wanted to bid my farewell with you.” Erin replied. “Thank you for being good to me and taking care of me. You were like the sister that I never had.” Erin was about to cry.
“Farewell, what? Why?” Hoshi was confused. “You’re leaving?”
“My parents found out about working part time. So they’re sending me to America.” She replied.
“America? That’s so far? Then I won’t see you any longer?”
“Don’t worry, we can write each other letters.” Erin smiled.

Erin’s mother then walked in the room.

“Erin, let’s go. Your fa -“ her mother stopped at the sight of Hoshi. “You’re - you’re alive?” she mumbled, staring at Hoshi.
“It’s a pleasure meeting you.” Hoshi smiled at Erin’s mother.
“Let’s go.” Erin’s mother ignored her, grabbing her daughter hand. “Bye Hoshi. Thank you.” Her mother dragged her away.
“Good luck with everything.”

On the way out of the hospital, Erin pulled away from her mother.

“Oww. You’re hurting me. What’s wrong with you? You had no right to treat my friend like that!” Erin told.
“Starting today, you are forbidden to see that girl. Do you understand me? Let’s go.” She grabbed her daughter once again, dragging her out of the hospital.
