Chris Cornell killed himself today. I have to admit it bothers me more than it probably should. I saw some videos of Chris Cornell playing soon before he committed suicide and he seemed more like a former shell of himself. He seemed out of it and not there mentally. I read that a lot of people that saw him perform say that he just didn't seem the same. Cornell may have had all this money and fame, but he had those inner demons and something must have been missing in his life to cause him to commit suicide. Everyone thinks that if they had money and fame, they'd be happy, but in reality new problems spring up. Sometimes, they may not be able to handle those problems. I've seen stories of lottery winners who end up committing suicide or who end up bankrupt 5 years after they win. He had to be empty inside or be missing something in order to think that suicide was an answer.
From what I understand, he talked to his wife, his speech was slurred and he mentioned taking 3 or 4 pills of some strong medication his doctor prescribed for him. I think that his family believes that in taking those pills, he lost his judgement and killed himself. I believe that they think he wouldn't have done that if he didn't take 3-4 pills of that medication. Doctors are saying that people on anti-depressants are more likely to kill themselves than people who aren't. I guess the question we have to figure out is 1) does the medication cause them to kill themselves, something with a chemical imbalance from the medication, or 2) are they someone who would have likely killed themselves anyway?
