I'm living in Redmond, Washington, which is a suburb of Seattle. It's a great area, everything seems happier and healthier this side of the Rockies (and Cascades, for that matter). I'm currently working (doing tech support) at a company that makes optics equipment, such as cameras that very accurately measure color and brightness. I don't really like my job, so I'm applying to go to graduate school next fall and maybe lead a more scholarly life (as everyone seems to think is a good idea). Gary has a job at a technical school. It's a more clerical than administrative role (which is what his Master's degree is in), but it is good for gaining experience to move up to those other roles. He's running unopposed to be the president of his union, which is not my cup of tea, but he's pretty excited about it. I think the job market here is not quite as tight, but we still can definitely feel the effects of the failing economy. We got ourselves a Wii for Christmas, which is pretty exciting.
Sorry to hear that you are worried about your job. Hopefully your boss finds you more valuable than your co-workers. :) I suggest bringing in cookies regularly to tip the scale in your favor.

Washington, eh? I'm currently obsessed with a book series that takes place in Forks, WA. So that's pretty cool that you're "nearby".
I hope grad school is the key to your happiness. Truly. What will you study?
I hope Gary gets the president spot. That's pretty cool. And he sounds like he's in a good position to move up the ladder eventually.
Thanks for the kind words. I find out tomorrow whether I still have a job. Fingers crossed, well wishes, prayers - whatever you want to do I'll appreciate.
