Of course!

While I was teaching my 3rd graders today, a bigwig at the ESOL central office texted the other ESOL teacher asking her to have me call her ASAP. (They had my number, not sure why they didn't contact me directly?) So she took over what I was doing with the students (Sparklefish iPad app = funtimes) and I retreated to one of our closets (soundproof) to give her a call. She answers the phone and immediately says to just call her after school on my way home, it's not an emergency, and hangs up.

Wtf mate?!

So many things were running through my mind. Why did she need to talk with me about? Was it something impacting my job? Had I inadvertently done something wrong? The last 10 minutes with the students passed in a blur. Karol and I debated what she could want after. We both had rather exasperating days, so it helped to talk it out.

On my way home, I called the boss lady. And she told me they want to move me to a high school. I would apparently have 12 students of my very own, no sharing, and it would be a morning position rather than afternoon. This position opened up, and they said they remembered I said I wanted to work secondary - which is a load of horse crap! I've never worked secondary! My certification is in middle grades. The phone connection was spotty, and I asked if I could talk to her about it tomorrow and let her know if I was up for the change or not. She said okay, but then said something that I couldn't quite understand about it possibly being a done deal.

I am not okay with moving to the high school. It's not the students, or teaching at that grade level. It's the practicalities. One, the school day for me would be an hour less than it is now - I do not know if that would reflect on my pay or not. I log my hours, but I'm on contract/salary until July 2014. Would I just work less at the same rate of pay, or would I be paid less? I didn't get a straight answer when I asked. Regardless of that, the high school is clear on the other side of Chattanooga. My current 15-20 minute commute would become 35-45 easy. I drive a gas-guzzling Blazer. Whether or not my pay would be nerfed, I'll still be out-of-pocket extra money for gas alone. And they ask me this after I emailed the other boss lady last week informing them of my other job possibly ending soon and a request for full-time status if/when possible. Since this high school gig would be mornings, I asked if they were offering it in addition to my Hixson Elementary position; she definitely said no to that one. No full-time for me as of now.

When I got home, I emailed both boss ladies asking for clarification. Neither replied as yet. I will be calling the one that called me in the morning to see if I can get some clarity on what they want/need and the repercussions on myself. I'm just starting to feel like things are gelling at Hixson, and now this.
