Dan's birthday went well. OMG he didn't get depressed!!!! That's a first!
We ended up going to Applebees. Everyone had steak but me who had a salad, and I'm glad I did because for dessert they ordered a massive super chocolate chunk of chocolate stuff and gave me the free birthday shooter. Even the little ice cream in a shot glass was too much for me. I liked all the whipped cream and the cherry though.
For his b-day I got him a couple of ring sample packs from The Ring Lord - more of what he's got (to replace the keychains he made for everyone), and some anodized aluminum to experiment with for colorful chainmail. He sorted them all out by color and hasn't decided what to do with them yet.
My parents lent us the full first season of Farscape on DVD! We've been through the first DVD so far :) I've only seen bits and pieces of a few episodes when Dan was watching while I was doing homework, until now. So I told them to watch Firefly and Leverage.
At work today, Ty and Mike were talking about PCs vs Macs. That topic is so old. Ty went through the same program at BTC that Dan did so he's considered a techie, though a young generation techie. But I was totally shocked when he couldn't come up with the history of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates! I usually stay pretty quiet at work and mind my own business (to the point where people come over to me and joke about me being "too loud"). But Mike couldn't come up with any proper answers about the Jobs/Gates history either. Then the most appalling thing, Ty, supposed to be a techie, ran off to Google it! That's when I had to speak up. I just couldn't take it anymore. It was torture to my ears. What kind of techie doesn't know THAT history?! So I turned around in my chair, got up and butted in on their conversation and gave them the lowdown. They were so shocked that I was talking at all that they snapped their mouths shut and didn't make a peep from the second sound came out of my mouth. Their eyes gaped in awe and respect as I explained the history of Jobs and Gates. When I was done they changed the conversation to include me in any possible way and Ty even said "I'm still surprised that Justene came out of the woodwork with geek knowledge". I was shocked to hear that too because A: every geek, graphic artist, or super user worth their salt should know that history, and B: it's no surprise that I know geeky stuff, considering who I hang out with, who my family members are, and that I'm partly geeky too. Then I remembered that they never hear me talk so their view of me is probably as just a mildly talented artsy person. Wow I really need to fix their view. So I kept talking to them about techie stuff until they had to go home. I still can't believe I had to teach that history to them. That's like teaching a painter about Vangough cutting off his own ear. How could they not know that!
