Y'know, good poetry doesn't have to rhyme

It sure doesn't.

But that's neither good, nor poetry.

Just a chorus that's been going round and round in my head for a few months. Can't seem to make a verse stick with it though.

That's good (though my original comment was tongue-in-cheek) because I can see its potential as a lyric, but not as much else.

I'm not much of a writer, in any format, unfortunately.

Eh, I don't think I am, either, but some people seem to think so.

You're in an established band, so bringing ideas to the table would possibly be more valuable than trying to bring entire songs - assuming you'd "give it away", so to speak.

I've written some lyrics before, most were crap, some showed flashes of brilliance, but the only ones that were really any good changed a lot from inspiration to "final" product.

And really, the best inspiration for anything artistic is an emotion (or in your case, an emotionally charged experience ;o) )

The only ideas that I would really bring to the table in Osmium Grid would be riffs. The drummer writes pretty much all the lyrics, and has three book's worth waiting to be turned into songs.

Besides, the riff I hear behind it isn't something that would suit that band - it's a bit more hard rock than death.

You're right, the best time to write something loud and heavy is when you're pissed off. I just wish my little practice amp hadn't died. It's too much of a pain in the arse to set up my now 150kg+ rig just to thrash out a couple of chords.
