San Juans!

I finally got all my pictures from my trip to the San Juan Islands. There's a lot of them. But that'S OKAY. so, here they are!!!!

First day, we went to an island called Sucia Island, where we anchored for the night.

The.. sign?

Alla and I in front of the Jamal. Jamal was the name of our boat...and it means the desert camel. hmm?

Alla and I in the dinghy (or as we say, DINKY!) going to Sucia Island

The shoreline

The seals! they were so cute.

The view from Sucia.  We had to wait for the dinghy to come, so we just stood and watched the watter.

Our dear cap'n jennifer (with her newly bought fan) and our second mate Sally Jo driving the boat.

The sundeck of our boaaat. From which we watched the following sunset of sucia harbor:

The second day we went to Friday Harbor:

Where we tried on hats in random stores.

And gotten eaten by cardboard killer whales.

And stuffed ones too.

Alla and virginia saw something in the water...couldn't decide whether it was alive or not...and decided to start banging on it with a large stick. hm. turned out to be a sea anenome.

We're at "c". get it? =P

We also went FISHING. hmmmmmm.

First fish caught during the day. it's a rock fish. the spines on its back are REALLY poisonous...and we ate it. it was so good!

Alla caught a pretty yellow fish. I caught another rockfish.

Alla also caught a SHARK.

And virginia caught a singing scallop. which bit her when she stuck her finger inside it! =P

Virginia secided to eat her own bait.

Us and our rockfish.

Then we went to echo bay, which had a little island just of it's shore called cemetary island. Alla and i had the bright idea of going snorkeling...in the 30 degree water. to say that it was freezing would be an understatement.

Cemetary Island. We snorkeled around it.

View of echo bay from cemetary island.

Us getting ready to go snorkeling. Alla for some reason decided to wear socks under her fins...hm.

One second we were sitting side by side in the dinghy being all happy and excited.

The next second i find myself forced in the water by alla. grr

we saw a jelly fish! =D

and a sea star and a dead fish. =( not much else

Where we were snorkeling. We had to get out in 10 minutes because the water was SO cold.

Then we went to Easty Sound, where we docked for the night. We took the dinghy around there.

Us in the dinghy

East Sound

We walked around the village and saw this car. The whole thing was covered in those stickers. iT was crazy!

Alla and I decided to be tough and go up  and down mount constitution, a 12 mile hike. We did it. But... it was SO TIRING.UG!

We kept seeing deeeer.

A log alla and i decided to climb on.

Shrek Potty!!!

The neverending rooad. We took the road up and a trail down. it was so annoying. every hour or so, there would be a sign saying "1.2 miles to the top" ... over and over again. Each sign saying "1.2 miles." =(

Some flowers we saw on the way.

The view at the top was AMAZING though! ahh.

This was at an elevation of 2400 feet.

The twin lakes.

Cascade lake

Everything. it was so beautiful!!!!!

We had a little fun climbing the fortress. Virginia (top!) decided to do see know evil, hear know evil, and speak no evil. but then mixed speak with think. uh. yeah!

THeeen we had to climb down the mountain.

A weird fungusy wasp thing we KEPT seeing.

Um. a tree

Alla and virginia after finding out we still had 3 miles left to go.

THEEN. we travelled to deer harbor. and then we went to laconner. to get to laconner we had to get through deception pass...which was a 3 hour trip. the fog was so thick you couldn't see 10 feet in front of the boat. it was scary! the captain had radar which could see any approaching boats, but we couldn't actually SEE them until they were right on top of us. and those boats were not following the law. in the fog you have to sound the horn every two minutes. whiuch NO ONE else was doing.  Also,. lots of the fishing boats had out nets which were HUGE. if you get stuck in the nets, you can't use the boat any more cause the engine is completely dead. 5 boats got stuck in fishing nets that day. the thing is, you can't see the fishing nets in the radar ... and can barely see them in the water. it was crazy!!!! we barely missed a few of them. = /

A ship coming out of deception pass with the fog behind it.

A sign in laconner.

We went to a sculpture garden and this was a sculpture there.

The boat is a sculpture...the bird isn't.

That night we decided to cook a dish called baked alaska. where you have layers of coffee or vanilla ice cream in between layers of chocolate cake and topped with really good egg white stuff. i can bake!!! =P

Alla, me, and chef sally doing the egg whites.

Me, alla, virginia, and our capn jennifer in our jamal aprons.

The baked alaska. you can't see the chocolate or the ice cream. but it's there!!!!

Us cutting it up!

The next night we went to teddy bear cove ... the remains of what used to be a nude beach in the 70s, but wasn't anymore. it's the sunset!!!

It was pirate night taht night! we ate green cake for dinner. yum

arrrrg?

our pirate treasures. uh. plastic? yeah!

The next day we went over to Canada to the butchart gardens. they were GORGEOUS!!!

Flowers in the gardens.

More gardens

The water lilies.

The weeping willow.

The fountains.

THen we had to leave. =(

A view of mount baker from our jet.

ugg. that was a FUN trip. =)
