I went out shopping today, partly because I needed to, and partly because it was just something to do with my day. Sadly, I think I need to find pass-times that cost less money.

I started out at Best Buy with the express purpose of using the gift card I got from MechMania on N+ for the DS, because I'll be spending some time in airports in the near future. I can happily say that I succeeded in that, and the game does not disappoint, but I couldn't help wandering around and looking at things that I had little to no intention of buying. It's been a long time since I've been in an electronics store like that. I buy most of my shit online these days (hi, I'm a nerd), and I can now remember why that is. The people working there weren't pushy or anything, as a matter of fact they were helpful with the one question I had and otherwise stayed out of my way, but the other customers kind of got to me. The place was busy, and I really don't like being around that many people when I'm going through my overly complicated decision-making process for a purchase. That, and the way that so much crapware is interspersed with the real electronics on the shelves somehow has a depressing effect on me. I've never pinpointed why that is.

Next, I went over to Borders, which may have been a mistake. I spent probably an hour and a half there, finding some of what I was looking for and a lot of what I wasn't. The people there were also helpful, also not too pushy. Bookstore people are good at this, mostly because it's easy for them to sell you a book by just having a conversation about it. Still, I'm a big boy and I can recognize when someone is trying to sell me something, but that didn't stop me from buying three books I didn't really need in a fevered lapse of shopping sense. They should be good books, don't get me wrong, but I didn't need to buy them. Thankfully, that was the end of my shopping.

Tomorrow I get to go to see the Bears play against the Rams with my dad thanks to no one else at Emerson wanting the tickets. I just wish I could have gotten one more ticket.
