A review of Jongleurs, Leeds, as I was there last night, on a works do.
Arrival, and "ticketing" is very easy. In fact there are no tickets to collect, just a list at the door of party organisers. We arrived individually last night and just told the guy at the desk the name of the person who had made the booking, and were marked off the list as a certain number of people in that party as having arrived, and were told to go through and upstairs.
The place itself makes use of every available space, and must be filled to capacity! There are rows of tables and each party is allocated a certain table.I've never seen so many people in one room before! Before the show starts (and the doors close about half an hour before) music is played and you need to raise your voice to be heard. It's a friendly atmosphere though!
Drinks/food - the bar is pretty busy but you can get served. The bar remains open throughout the show but gets very busy during the interval. To avoid the rush, find one of the waitresses who will come to your table and take your your interval drinks order. You pay up front and the drinks are brought to you at half time. 4 pint pitchers are available! The same waitress will also take your food order, which is served before the show starts. We were able to order both interval drinks and food on the night without having ordered these in advance of the day.
The show started at 8.30 and ended about 10.45. There were 3 comedians and a compere, all of whom were good. One of the comedians was blind(the only one in the country he claimed!) and there was also an Aussie and a Northern guy. If anyone is easily offended by bad language though then beware; this sort of stuff isn't for children!
After the comedy night ends the crowd is invited to move into the bar next door, however I cannot comment on this as I left for the last bus home!
All in all a good night was had by all!
