Dean really wasn't planning on it being like this. Really, he wasn't. The things he wanted for the world. The things he wanted for Cas -- everything had been ruined. He wished he could have made it right when he had a chance. If he ever had a chance. The hunter looked on at his angel, a smile tugging at his lips as he looked down at the other man's outfit and than back at his own. "Guess we had the same idea...trip down memory lane?" Dean hadn't really done this for himself but more for Cas. Castiel who usually seemed more tired than usual but he tried. He tried more than Dean...that was for sure. But then again, everyone seemed to try more than Dean. Of course, the hunter may have been their leader. But he was in no way someone that people knew had hope in the situation. If there was anyone with the least amount of hope -- it was always going to be Dean.
Dean gripped the present a little tighter before his arms just shot out from in front of him, holding it out to the former angel. "Merry Christmas, Cas." He breathed, keeping his gaze from meeting the other man's before looking back at him. "I looked...everywhere for this." He didn't really have to try. In the Apocalypse, strays were always easy to find. But it was a healthy one that usually seemed to be more of a greater rarity.
Castiel looked at Dean for a good long time before moving aside and pulling the door back so that he could enter. Gifts could wait until later. He just wanted his friend out of the cold and somewhere warmer, and his cabin was one of few that had a fireplace.
"I was-- reflecting," searching for the word wasn't hard so much as embracing it.
Dean was right about to shove the box in Cas's arms before the former angel took it from him and he moved inside. It was...more agreeable to be inside than it was to be outside as his boots heavily clanked against the hardwood as he looked over his shoulder at him. "No...problem. Apparently people seem to think we need to start getting back to the roots of shit. Christmas party, shit like that." He chuckled a little as he tucked his hands into his jacket pockets as he moved to settle closer to the fireplace before looking back at his friend.
"You should open it. I wasn't smart enough to put holes..." Because he thought Cas would just tear it open to see what was inside.
True to Dean's imagination, Castiel took a seat beside him shortly after he did by the fireplace and peeled the box open with the smooth side of his palm. He could tell it was an empty bullet box but he didn't mind at all. Time spent alone with Dean was a rarity.
Dean really couldn't help but peek over his shoulder when the former angel uncovered the present and this guy was laying in wait in the corner. "He took me forever to find 'im and almost forever to catch him.
Castiel inspected the small furry animal and then picked it up giving it a scratch to his head. "He's very cute," he said with a soft voice. "What compelled you to do this?"
He grinned a bit as he watched Castiel scratch the kitten's head and watching the little thing immediately reacted to the touch and Dean really couldn't help but smile. "Christmas..."
"That's wonderful Dean, but you know I don't like being made priority."
He never did. The camp always came first, right next to Dean's order and anything he could assert. He gave himself over to the hunter wholly the first time that he saved his life. Nothing changed that.
Breaking boundaries for a brief moment Cas closed distance between them to give Dean a good hug.
Everything seemed to be made priority over Castiel when it came to everything. The current leader of the survivors of humanity didn't help but just shrug a little when he said that. "I wanted to..." Make him something of a priority. He deserved that much. Dean thought he did at the very least when he hugged the former angel back, shutting his eyes for a brief moment. "You deserved one good Christmas present, Cas."
"Why?" Cas asked, breath barely a whisper over the side of Dean's neck as they embraced. "When you're both my Christmas gift and my New Year resolution."
Certain things hadn't left him, one of them was the blatant honesty.
Dean sighed a little at that, a smile tugging at his lips as he leaned back and pressed a kiss to the man's forehead. "Didn't think that was enough. Plus...can't always be there so he can." Because Dean didn't want to get a woman to come dressed in a bow. There was a little something called 'possessiveness' that he had to deal with still. And still he dealt with it horribly.
Normally, he'd push him away. Dean wasn't much into these sorts of moments. Not after everything but for the most part, this was something owed. Not just to Cas but to himself. "I...duh, of course I know that."
Cas smiled a little at how bashful he was being, fingers curling around the fabric of Dean's old leather jacket and he pulled him close for a deep passionate kiss. It was filled with a lot more than he was used to showing him, but he'd felt so neglected and lost the past few weeks. He knew Dean had been avoiding him because of what had happened and he wanted Dean to know he wasn't going anywhere. He wanted Dean to know who he really belonged to.
Dean didn't really do bashful. He was just at a loss for words at a moment. Give him time and he'll be right as rain once again. In time...of course. But at the moment, he didn't need the words from Cas. He just needed. The hunter shut his eyes when the both of them kissed before he wrapped his arms around him, breaking the kiss for the need of air. "There's somethin' else...but we gotta move."
"Something else, Dean?" Castiel was skeptical. He didn't want his leader to be doing so much for him but at those words he pulled away to give Dean his space, looked at him expectantly. "What something else?"
Dean gripped the present a little tighter before his arms just shot out from in front of him, holding it out to the former angel. "Merry Christmas, Cas." He breathed, keeping his gaze from meeting the other man's before looking back at him. "I looked...everywhere for this." He didn't really have to try. Cas took the box from him. "Thank you."
He didn't get him anything. Nothing but the snow.
