This football season has been pleasant so far. I thoroughly enjoyed watching USC smash OSU 35-3. One of the things I developed during my time in Ohio was a severe disliking of anything Ohio State. It mostly spawned from the boorish fans who though Ohio State was God's gift to earth. In NC you have State, Wake, Duke, and even UNC to separate the fans (And more recently App and ECU), whereas in Ohio the population supporting Buckeye Football is close to 95%. There really isn't a team, at least for native Ohioans, that draws the same appeal as OSU. Even UC fans root for the Buckeyes. (One odd thing I found was how people at Xavier rooted for Cincinnati's football team (Bearcats not Bengals) because Xavier didn't have a D-1 team (it's currently only club level.)) <-- Yes I did just use a parenthetical explanation within a parenthetical sentence.
Also, I've been really pleased with Notre Dame's season so far. Though the last game seemed so wild that each time I looked away there was an interception or fumble, I was happy to see the Irish get the win.
Soo far I've enjoyed this semester. My classes are going along well though I have not had any tests or anything graded outside of homework that is checked for completion. I've slowly become acclimated to the school though I still have a ways to go. I felt that the university did not have as good an orientation or integration program as I would have liked to have seen or participated in. The few people I met during orientation I do not see. My classes are interesting and for the most part seem like a good environment. I don't really have many connections with people in the MWF classes but my Themes in Literature class has, by far, the most sociable collection of students I've had in a class. It's really enjoyable walking into class and speaking with the people there (one of whom was courteous enough to invite me to a shindig.) Though it has often made the class tangential, the professor has created a good environment for discussion. Pedagogically, the environment is not very conducive to learning new techniques so much as just finding a communal understanding of concepts which may or may not enhance the individual writing comprehension of each person within the class.
Man, I sure hope the gas prices recede so that it doesn't cost my first born to attend class.
