I had an interesting dream two nights ago.

I dreamed of some sort of "deconstruction" of the concept of plot armor as applied to a pair of sci-fi protagonists.

The two protagonists invade an enemy base and get involved in a shootout. The more experienced of the two escapes into their spaceship, and flies off. Somehow, I understand this to be a game, where her companion protagonist is also supposed to survive, and she's supposed to fly back, re-dock at the space base, and pick her up.

But something goes wrong. Somehow, the spaceship never docked, and I remember I felt like I was playing a game, trying to navigate the spaceship around the base until it docked. But it never did.

Suddenly, I somehow felt like I was in that first character's shoes--my closest companion had just died, and she was supposed to be around for the plot to continue. What now?

I think it was influenced by three things:
* Kiddy Grade, episode two (I think it's "Tight/Bind", where they deal with the guy stealing Hi-G)
* Noir, episode two (I don't remember the title)
* the backstory pages to the freeware game Iji (I still haven't started the game)

An observation: The financial services industry puts some of the smartest and best people in charge of every little detail that goes on. They hire top talent, and pay some of their people top dollar just to retain them because they value them for their intelligence (and later, experience) (presumably).

But why does the market as a whole act as if it had the intelligence and foresight of a toddler? This market downturn crash that's going on now is basically said toddler sticking its tongue at mommy, running off to play in the woods, then coming back crying with a poison ivy rash on itself.
