style of opera singing

My again attempting to find a YouTube video of someone playing the complete (emphasis on complete) Chopin Variations Op. 2 (on Mozart's famous aria theme from Don Giovanni) again brought me to the comparison of the Bartoli/Terfel and Crow/Pavarotti versions of that aria duet.

I still like Sheryl Crow's singing more than Cecelia Bartoli's. Yes, I do in fact like the very direct and speech-like vocal style that's more prevalent in popular music than in classical music, that same style that characterized Crow's singing, and made it different from (and more musically satisfying than, in my opinion) the stereotypical style of opera singing--characterized by heavy use of vibrato and a very "back of the mouth/throat" (at least in my attempts to imitate it) and unnatural feel.

I wonder if I would like opera more if people sang opera like that. Granted, it strays from the "traditional" opera style (though just because it's traditional doesn't mean I'll like it more, it might only mean that I respect it for its being tradition).

But yeah...does anyone know of a YouTube video of someone playing those Chopin Variations?
