MY FATHER

Jun 21, 2009 18:51

Always watching and waiting
to see if I can stand on my own two feet
to prove to himself that he raised me well
Three women went to visit you today
brass characters on your headstone
needed a good brushing
I traced my fingers along the calligraphy
and mouthed out your name
Three generations
my mother, my daughter and me
burnt incense
bowed our heads
wished you well
in the traditional way
I'm hoping you're still watching
and waiting
to see if I can stand on my own two feet
to prove that you raised me well
I miss you dad, can't you tell?
