New Vocab and Odd Example Sentences    Okay, so first of all, today in class we were learning some new grammar and what not, nothing different from any other day, really. In Tagalog "Kuya" refers to an older brother, older male cousin, or a sign of respect for someone close to you who is a guy. "Ate" refers to an older sister, older female cousin, or someone older of the female race who you want to respect. But if you're like 12 or older, instead of "kuya" you have to say "manong," and "manang" instead of "ate."
Yeah. I can understand the whole confusing part of that, but in a way it's easier cuz you can just call everyone the same thing. Ha.
And you do look part Asian. But no worries, it makes you look smart.

I always thought Tagálog was a lot more influenced by Spanish, but after reading your comment, I did some homework and found out that the two are hardly related beyond a lexical standpoint. I can't believe I never knew that. haha
