I very much like what has become of the eleventh Doctor. I don't know if Matt Smith has finally grown into his character, or if I have simply learned to understand him, Eleven has grown on me very much. Especially the latest episode has shown me the depth I have been missing, the emotional weight of a man who has been traveling for almost a thousand years. With Amy and Rory he has always been so happy-go-lucky, but now I've finally learned to see the Doctor behind all that twirling. There were moments in this episode, especially during his semi-goodbye with the TARDIS, when Eleven showed some depth and passion that, dare I say it, even Ten did not show.
It took me all of Season 5, but I now fully accept Matt Smith as not only a, but THE Doctor. I'm happy now. I'm honoring my acceptance by going off and replacing my Ten icon by an Elven icon. He has earned it.
I've always imagined the TARDIS to have a more stoic and quiet personality. More like an aunt or a mother to the Doctor- taking care of him, feeding him, washing his clothes and patiently enduring his escapades and playdates- that sort of thing. Surprisingly, I liked the characterization a lot. It feels right, for the TARDIS having such an adventurous nature. Her stealing the Doctor makes perfect sense. OTP
"You beautiful idiot", she called him, and I guess that sums it up.
On a different note, "The Doctor's Wife" blew up at least one popular River Song theory: She is definitely not the TARDIS. Also, considering the title of the episode, I also dismiss the possibility of her being his wife. Mother died ever since they started flirting around- but there are still dozens of other theories, including the Master, the Rani, the Doctor's child, his next regeneration, among others.
Also: Does anyone else get the feel that Moffat is turning this season psychedelic? Judging by the preview, this week's episode will be creepy, as well.
