Birthday Weekend for notalonelygirl

May 19, 2010 19:36

They left Friday after Rigby's classes let out and headed down to Mexico, where Tony had booked them reservations for the weekend.  It was a little two hour flight to Los Cabos at the tip of Baja Mexico, where the resort was situated as part of many others, but One and Only was just that--one and only.  They had the villa to themselves.

On Saturday... )

Rigby was pretty sure that she'd never felt so pampered in her life. She loved her job, she loved the kids, but by the end of the year, she was ready for a break. She could usually last until summer break started, but the past year had been pretty stressful. She really just needed to relax, and the trip to Mexico had been just what she needed.

The massages had been heavenly, the yoga had actually made her feel better, and, of course, she always enjoyed time at the beach. By the time dinner rolled around, she was completely relaxed, all the tension having bled right out of her body.

"More?" she said, looking intrigued as Tony reached into his suit pockets. "Aren't I spoiled enough?" Her eyes lit up when she saw the boxes he set on her side of the table. That green-ish blue color and the white ribbons were unmistakable; he'd gone to Tiffany's ( ... )

He loved spoiling her. It made sense for someone he really cared about. He loved her, he didn't just care about her. It was just hard to say it sometimes, but he really did, and times like with her were his favorites.

He loved her face when she was surprised, watching with a small smile as she pulled the necklace and the earrings out of the box. "I needed to spoil you more, you know how it is," he said.

His smile spread as she put the earrings on--they looked perfect. He found the necklace first, but it had taken awhile to go through some of them, trying to think which one was her. But the earrings, as soon as he saw them he knew she'd like them. He wasn't as oblivious as he seemed sometimes.

"I think they look beautiful on you," he said, looking very pleased that she was happy. "I'm glad you love them, I thought about you right away." Even if Edwin had to remind him--several times--that her birthday was coming up. "Happy birthday, sweetheart."

Rigby really didn't mind being spoiled by Tony. She saw it all as proof that he cared about her. She only protested because she didn't want to seem like she expected the spoiling (although she certainly had gotten used to it over the years.)

"You spoil me plenty," she said, grinning brightly. She tucked her gold hoops into the box that had held her new earrings, and then looked at her necklace again. She was pretty sure she'd never seen so many diamonds in one place before "Thank you so much, Tony. This birthday has been perfect."

She grinned and held the necklace out to him. "Will you put this on me, please?" She couldn't wait to show off the diamonds.

If he was ever actually concerned about his reputation, Tony might be worried about coming across as being tamed or something. But he hadn't really cared from the beginning, he just did what he wanted, and he'd been with Rigby for so long.

He did flirt, there were occasional.. problems.. He tried to keep it to a minimum, but he always came home to her. And he tried to make things special and do right by her. It was kind of a big issue for him, as much as he didn't want to think or admit it, breaking the chain of unhappiness that he always saw growing up. Rich people often didn't have happy relationships.

"Good, I hoped it would be," he replied. He liked to see her happy. It was that tamed thing again, it made him happy too.

Tony took the necklace from her and stood up, walking around the table. He draped it over the front of her neck and fastened it behind, leaning down to kiss her shoulder. "You look gorgeous. I mean you did before, but they look great on you."

Rigby didn't mind Tony's flirting because she knew that Tony loved her. After all, he wouldn't have stuck with her since they were teenagers if he didn't care. She felt that they had a very happy relationship, and it was moments like this that further cemented that idea in her mind.

She smiled as he fastened the necklace around her neck, and she reached back to run her fingers through his hair as he kissed her shoulder. "Thank you, Tony," she said, feeling happy warmth spread through her. "This is the best birthday ever. I have enjoyed this so much, really."

It did mean that he cared. He cared about her more than anything, and it a lot of ways, she was his family. Her and Edwin--all he had left. He wasn't going to let her go.

"You're welcome," he said with a small smile. "You deserve it. You put up with me all the time, you might as well get something out of it." His tone was teasing, but...she did have to put up with him.

Rigby laughed and smiled. "Aw, Tony, putting up with you, it's not that bad," she said. "I've really enjoyed the last eight years, and I get a lot out of it, not just pretty things. Although those are very nice."

She gave him an adoring look. "I'm the luckiest girl in the whole world."

He smiled a little and kissed her cheek. "I've enjoyed it too," he said, and quirked a brow curiously. "Has it been eight years, really? That's a long time, I mean.. yeah. It is."

He smiled again at her look. Anything going on at home or at work was really second chair now. "I love you."

Rigby grinned and nodding. "Yep, going on eight years. I was 17 when we met, and I'm turning 25 today. It's officially eight years in November, but eh, semantics."

She always loved to hear him say those three words, and that day was no exception. "I love you too, Tony."

"I'm honestly not too sure what I would have done for those past eight years if we hadn't been together. I'm sure I wouldn't have been as happy." He reached over to pull his chair around the table so he could sit closer, and he reached over to trace her neck where the necklace was.

"That is an accomplishment though." He smiled a little. He liked to hear those words too, even if he didn't always say them. It sort of made it that much more powerful when he did. "Are you happy?"

"I definitely know I wouldn't have been as happy these past eight years without you," Rigby said, grinning as he pulled his chair closer. She shivered as he traced her neck.

"Totally an accomplishment," she said. She smiled and nodded at his question. She didn't even have to think about it -- even with all the Iron Man stuff and all the worry that was associated with it, she could still honestly say that "Yes, Tony, I'm very happy." She leaned over, nudging her nose against his.

He watched her face and her eyes, looking for her reaction. It was what he had hoped for, and they still had all day tomorrow before they flew back too. Sometimes they just needed to get away and be by themselves. And the thought of being together for eight years still boggled him a little, but in a good way. He never thought he'd be able to do it, but he wanted to for her.

"That's what I want to hear," he said, smiling softly. He moved his nose against hers and brushed his lips against her own to tease her just a little.

Rigby smiled and reached out to brush her fingers over his cheek, sighing softly into the kiss. "I love you so much, Tony," she said, "and I wouldn't change anything about us. Even the Iron Man stuff and worrying about you. I'll take the bad with the good, always."

She grinned and kissed him again, sliding her fingers into his hair. "Maybe we should've gotten room service..."

It made him feel better to hear her say it, even if he knew it to begin with. But it helped. It was verbal verification. Rigby was good at alleviating his fears and concerns, sometimes without even knowing they existed in the first place.

He smiled a little against her lips. "We could go back to the room anyway. Order champagne?"

Rigby grinned and nodded a little, reaching out to stroke her fingertips over his cheek. "Champagne sounds perfect," she said. She would've been happy to know that she alleviated Tony's fears and concerns, though she didn't really even know they were in place.

She did like to make Tony happy. She would do anything just to see a smile on his face.

He smiled a little, one of his quirky half-smirks, and he reached for one of her hands, tugging on it lightly. "Champagne, definitely. C'mon, birthday girl. Champagne and the hot tub, or maybe the bed... up to you."
