It's something I don't need, something that you do, and I respect you..

I just finished watching an episode of 30 Days (first aired in 2006) where an atheist woman went to live with a Christian family (link). The dichotomy between the two parts was incredibly interesting to watch. The only ground rules was that she was to attend weekly church services and weekly bible study. The bible study scenes were of particular interest, as the members could not wrap their head around how she could possibly live without god in her life.

I'm watching this, and listening to the problems this woman has had and is currently being given, and it just makes me appreciate the environment in which I grew up. One in which my being atheist has hardly ever been a problem to anyone. It occurs to me now that that probably is pretty rare.

I look over at a pile of things in my room that haven't quite found a home yet. The first thing I see is an inspirational tote from one of my best friends (who is religious) that reads "Smile, God Loves You." It makes me love my friends all over again.
