[Yeah, Dist is still rather bitter about the whole droning thing and his talk with Nina. He hasn't even had the energy to update his letter, which he knows sorely needs doing, and his efforts to repair the Kaiser's gun constantly end in frustration. Sol, his cheagle, to his credit, does his best to comfort his master, but in a house full of drones ( Read more... )

[She spots Dist on her way home from school. Usually she'd just keep walking, but his expression makes her pause. She stands a bit aways and smiles.]

Those are really lovely.

They're selenias... native to my home. I had one replicated from a while ago, and I thought it was only fitting to fill the garden with them. Knowing Mayfield, they should survive the winter.

[His expression is still somewhat sad, though.

[She walks a little closer and crouches next to him, careful not to pick up and dirt on her skirt. ]

Um, I don't really know what replicating is. But it's nice that you managed to get something from home.

[Dist sits back on the grass, crossing his legs.]

Someone from home got one back, a long time ago. I have a machine that can make copies of things, so I made a copy of it just in case. Just as I expected... both he and the original disappeared.

[If this were Ryuuji, and back home, she'd have responded with a 'go bitch to someone else'. But it wasn't, and she could relate to loneliness.]

You've been taking care of it since?

Yes. There's no one left from my world that can. I'm the only one.

[Him and the cheagle, but Dist has a bad habit of discounting him as a stupid animal. They have a weird comfort-ignore relationship.]

This place sucks.

[...] Still, it's pretty cool that you've kept it alive for so long. I'd probably have under-watered or over-fertilized it after a week.

When it's one of your only relics, you're careful to preserve it. I never... thought I'd be this sentimental over a flower of all things.

[He laughs, but it's a bitter sound.]

What has this place done to me...

[She looks at him for a second, before letting out a joking laugh and reclining a little.]

Uh huh. Were you too awesome to like flowers before~?

Dist the Rose has always had an appreciation for flowers.

[He scoffs, looking genuinely mocking.]

But I've never had to place such sentimentality on something so fragile.

[Wow, that name. His mom must've really hated him.]

What a downer~ It's pretty, it's a piece of home, and it really shows you care to keep something this delicate alive. Do you need more?

I'd like more freedom than this town deigns to give me.

What would you do with it?

With freedom? What sort of question is that?

Hey, you could be some crazy axe murderer for all I know. Freedom for me means going back to my world and a nicer wardrobe, but maybe for you it means going on a killing spree. Or wearing skorts. Scary~

How about not having to look over my shoulder for a change? Living with people and not drones. Resources for my research. No more forced conformity. No hazmats. Is that good enough for you?
