your spine cracks like a wineglass
pg. 83 words.


hold it steady, hold it still.
you drink it like it's water,
fingers growing clumsier with each sip.

the stem trembles in your hand,
it's mouth tipped towards yours

and then- then it slips.
falls all the way to the ground.

break a glass and you hear the sound,
shatter against the marble floor
pieces pitter-pattering beneath your feet
crunching shards.

i break in your hands.
you smash me. i fall to pieces.

there is no sound for the breaking
of a heart.
