It's that time again

I am referring to the time window before a big event where people start asking "the question". "The question" is not really worded the same way every time.  It can vary from "Your race is getting close, right? Six weeks? A month?" to "Hey, how was your Marathon? Wasn't that last week?" and everything in-between those two endpoints.  It need not be a race... if you've had some important-to-you thing going on at some point in your life, you can probably relate to this.

It's the time where you discover that although you are acutely aware that there's 2 weeks, 1 day, 10 hours 49 minutes and 12 sedonds (accounting for a perfectly-timed "fall back") until your big event, to everyone else it's kind of... well... just another day. But because they are asking "the question", you also discover that a bunch of people actually do care. That's cool. They may not know exactly what day is your day, and sometimes they're not really sure what you're doing, but they know that there's something going on, and that you've attached some personal importance to it. To all of you who've been asking the past couple weeks, I extend a heartfelt "Thank You."

...and then there's "the next question". It's a natural response to the answer from the first one. "The next question" is always worded exactly the same way, regardless of what your thing is:

"Are you ready?"

Well sh!tballs. You had to go and pee all over my warm fuzzies, didn't you? Now, it's just bouncing around there in my brain, echoing... areyoureadyareyoureadyareyoureadyareyoureadyareyou...

"Are you ready?" - Yeah, like I haven't heard that one before.
"Are you ready?" - First of all, I don't think you've provided an adequate definition of the word "ready". Secondly...
"Are you ready?" - Who wants to know?
"Are you ready?" - Well... am I ready? Am I?

Yeah, I'm ready.
