there's been some kvetchery recently about local litter caused by smokers. it brings to mind a video i came across not too long ago on TED. i wonder if we could bribe train the local corvids to pick up butts in exchange for peanuts?

i remember when jackson's LotR was still in the works, there was discussion on the internets about how this would lead to a renaissance of fantasy film-making. well, were they right?

the teaser trailer for next year's dark knight (the next batman movie) is up

a month or so ago, i thought of an elegant use of RFID technology to improve the public transit experience. i never got around to writing it up of course, and now apparently someone else is already doing it. i thoroughly approve, and wonder what it would take to get the local transit system to use it.

i think it's somewhere towards the end of the name of the rose that umberto eco puts forward the image of books talking to each other. i think i've found myself in the middle of a bit of that lately.
