Oh It's Like This Now

I didn't pop champers Tuesday, despite having a perfectly good bottle of Gosset Brut Excellence to ice down and toast with, not to mention a perfectly fantastic reason to celebrate. Early in the a.m. and bereft of coffee, it didn't occur to me that I could have brought the bottle to my buddy Joe's place which is where I went to watch the ( Read more... )

I don't have any of those books, sadly. But you should also try used book sources like Modern Times, Dog Eared Books, etc.

And really, they are making you read the bio of the fake JT Leroy lady? I'll be interested to hear if she has ANY valid excuse for that charade.

And I really liked Reverend Lowrey's speech as well - it was thoughtful and well written and smart and even slightly humorous with his rhyme at the end, although also serious at the same moment when he did that. I was not super fond of the poem, even though I liked the message of it. And Aretha's hat was uh-may-zing. It's totally recession-proof!

Yeah I got a nice price on a used copy of "This Boy's Life" from Green Apple but figured I'd hit up folks before I started to shell out more for the rest.

I missed the JT LeRoy craze and was pretty much indifferent to the fallout after the fraud was revealed. I read the recent SF Weekly cover story on Knoop and felt that probably would suffice for what I needed to know about her. I'm sort of meh about the entire reading list for the autobiography class.

Dude, be GLAD you missed the JT Leroy hoopla. Luckily I never read any of "his" books and thus fell prey to his whole false memoir but I read a lot about the fake-out and it's aftershocks and the whole thing was so drama and crazy and very particularly California.

Seriously, I almost called you yesterday because I just knew you had ALL of these books. I wonder if you thought of me when I thought of you! Spooooooky!

I read "Cruddy" recently and have been using your "Judy Blume meets Nick Cave" description which is just about as perfect a description I've ever heard of such an amazingly complex book. That book tore me up. Fuck.

I like yr yen and I definitely want to hang out soon. It's been a long while. I've got lots o' time these days.

i own the knoop/jt leroy one. it's loaned to a friend, but i'm pretty sure he's done with it, so i just asked him to return it so i can get it to you. this sounds like a good step. i've dealt with some fairly crushing depression in my time, so i'd like to offer any support you'd need around that, even if you just need someone to call to break the isolation of it.
