I am old enough to have seen the original series, and remember Richard Hatch fondly. I think it was a brilliant choice to cast him as Zarek, where the easy charm and swagger of the '70's action TV show hero could be made into something darker. Part of that is the 'way with the ladies' that stands in such contrast with Adama's reserve. This chapter was so much fun to write because of that!

I'd been in the camp, okay, they're NOT doing it here, they ARE here--that phone call in Crossroads, I'm sorry, you only talk with a guy like that if you're sleeping with him. They did everything but the: "No, you hang up first," part.

Then I realized it could work in a series as a constantly shifting situation, and that's how I'm running with it.

Yes, this whole series really grew out of 'other times.' What other times, screams legions of 'shippers! Do you happen to know if that was a improv by EJO? Because it sure seems like a way to slip in the idea that they are getting something here and there.

Very well done.
i loved the smooth way you brought the flashback and the metaphor in and elaborated on that in such a natural way. Your Zarek rocks for trying out the Admiral like this and being so in character while doing it. Splendid piece of writing, Both technically and emotionally.

It's good to hear those two choices worked for you. As a new writer in the BSG universe, I'm sort of feeling my way into deeper water of more characters past A/R. And as much as I'm on Adama's side, I really enjoyed letting Zarek poke him with a stick!

This was just great, the way they were both circling each other and Zarek baiting Adama. I can't wait to see what happens.

The unexpected intimacy in Adama’s voice made Tom felt slightly embarrassed, as though he’d caught them having sex, but it answered an obvious question that he’d had about the true nature of their relationship. His eyes glanced through the archway to the Admiral’s rack, almost surprised to find it empty.

Most excellent that bit above. Love it.

Having a great time reading this & always looking forward to the next installment.

(Okay, very weird, LJ's gone crazy on me! I was trying to reply to sunshine, and it kept showing up under kastari's post! Spooky! Anyhoo, work on that later!)

I had to give Tom some sympathetic quality, that he'd actually be embarrassed to catch them at something! But at the same time, I think he's sharp enough to see what others may not.

(Now let's see what happens when I hit post...)

(Okay, let's see if it will work from this way...)

Zarek doesn't even know what's he's fishing for, but he's such a opportunist, taking advantage in a moment whenever something comes near his teeth.

I'll be slapping the next chapter up soon; no need to wait long!

I absolutely love this series. I don't quite know what to think yet about this thing between Adama & Zarek. It did made for great interaction I felt was needed.

I'll get back at you with a more in depth review at the end of chapter 4 :) Can't wait for more though!

I'm so glad to hear that I'm keeping your reading attention.

The show had such an embarrassment of riches with characters and possible storylines. In rewatching this episode, I saw it was obvious that Zarek and Adama had met, and thought, I gotta see that scene! It does have a weird 'thing' quality, but it felt right.

(What will happen this time? Posting gremlins are at work!)

Just found this -- loved the interaction between Adama and Zarek. Love the weakness in Adama -- that he really doesn't know what happened and Tom's sheer glee that he has that over the "old man". Your imagery was fantastic. Off to the next part :)

The events on NC obviously affected all the characters down there, and yet we don't really see if and when Adama finds any of this out, other than Tigh's obviously going to tell him something in Hero. But it gives me an opportunity for a scene like this, where Zarek can just toy with the big cat.

I do enjoy Zarek's glee too, even if I want to kick him in the balls for it!
