A/N: It’s somadanne’s birthday so I’m tossing fic confetti at someone who loves our little A/R ship and encourages it so much.

I got inspiration from last week’s ar_drabbles challenge, ‘time to break the rules’ so it can be a ficlet, thus not offending any drabble purists. ;-)

I agree! Yay for birthdays! It gets me writing, trying to think of something the birthday girl will enjoy. Always a great challenge.

As much as it irritates me that we don't see the second diagnosis, it means we can make our own scene!

Oh yes, it's like sharing the cake. The birthday girl just needs to get the biggest rose. :D

Time seemed like such a good theme for a birthday. Birthdays always make me wonder where the hell the last year went!

Sigh. The clock metaphor is beautifully done. And so poignant--it's not just their opportunity for intimacy, but Laura's very life that's ticking down.

He knows how to measure our moments, fulfilling our needs, yet never in a hurry.

I love that Bill understands how to work within her physical limits; how to give them what they need without demanding too much of her, or exhausting her energies. He's the one who deserves the most of her time, and yet takes the least from her. Classic Bill...

I didn't want it to be angsty with Laura admitting time is slipping away. I wanted her to fight back against the obvious. With Bill's help, of course. He's someone who understands time management.
