I'm sorry the birth didn't go quite right, but I'm glad you and Dottie are okay :)
Samantha was a posterior baby too, so I kinda feel your pain. Elise had her hand up by her chin as she came out, but it was nothing compared to the pain of pushing Sam out! And I had an epidural...I cant even imagine brow first, posterior, and no drugs o_O. You're awesome.
I had homebirths for my first two kids. My first labor was quite long (and I was 2+ weeks postdates) and after an extended pushing phase and a weird presentation, he was born, but had meconium and breathing trouble. He ended up being transferred to the NICU for a week with pneumonia and then potential seizure activity
( ... )
thank you so much for sharing your story with me! it is heartening to hear (be reminded) that i could have a lovely birth in the hospital too. it's a good point that i would probably get different treatment after having had two home births than i would have as a first time inexperienced mom. even though i clearly don't have to decide ANYTHING about a third child today, it makes me feel calmer to realize that a birth in a hospital could work for our family too. i actually already know which CNM i would work with even! : )
Congrats on a healthy beautiful little girl, Katie. :) I am sorry you had difficulties, I know what it feels like for birth to not go at all as expected in a not so great way. I am glad you both made it through safely though!
I never posted the story to naturalbirth. The short version is I attempted an HBAC and after 55+ hours of labor ended up with a repeat c-section. I was really sad - to put it mildly - but in retrospect there wasn't much more I could have done in preparation to try to achieve the birth I wanted, so at least I did my best!
i just read it -- WOW! i've never actually heard of someone being in labor so long. that sounds crazy intense. as i said in this birth story, i am so aware right now of the profound challenge and transformation of birth -- ANY birth. i was also glad to read the list of positives at the bottom of your story. it sounds like you had really great support, which i learned this time makes such a big difference (especially in a home birth - hospital transfer -- i was so afraid to be treated poorly!).
that's really interesting about the "trifecta" -- i'm not sure it exactly applies here since my bleeding was caused by the retained placenta rather than by a tired uterus (my uterus was clamping down nicely during the transfer actually -- it just couldn't finish the job, you know?). but it's nice to hear that maybe things would be different next time. i assume that, but i'm sure i'll worry up until i have another safe birth (if i get pregnant again -- who knows?).
