I'm back from Cali and have a few pics to share.
The trip was amazing, I love it there. I did the touristy thing... Disney (however did not get to go to hollywood as we were jammed on the freeway for so long and could not make it ). I went to a bunch of different beaches (never took my camera?), I shopped a bit ( note the sarcasm), watched a bunch of movies, swam in the hotel pool a ton, went to a bunch of art galleries in the Laguna beach area. On the last night of my trip went to this massive art function. There were around 150 different artists that were showing their paintings, sculptures, photo's, and prints. Following taking all of this in there was this production which paid homage to the masters of art. It was held in a huge outdoor auditorium that was right in the middle of these massive hills outside of Laguna beach (there were a bunch of signs around the site warning ppl of the rattle snakes that live in these hills and whole area this function took place...eek). For the production actors would pose in these large tableau's and try and recreate classical pieces of art. Some of the artists featured were Van Gogh, Da vinci (the Last Supper), Rodin, William Hogarth... a bunch of really interesting Hindu sculptures, Japanese ukiyo-e block prints of Geisha's and so many more. The actors would hold the poses of the various paintings and you'd swear it was a two dimensional classic work. Needless to say this trip was amazing.
The whole Dynamic of culture is interesting in California. There is a huge Mexican population there, tons of great Mexican food on every corner and Spanish seems to be the second language there (maybe the 1st), instead of seeing french on everything there was spanish. It was really different. I'd love to learn the language (among others).
Now that I'm going to be living in Vancouver I'll be so close to Cali, I'd love to drive along the coast and go again but stop at some less popular locations and explore. I'd love to take my camera and film along the way. This is something I have to do while I'm living in Van!
