So, I thought mom was going to be dismissed Monday.
She ended up being dismissed Thursday. Doc H kept changing the date. (I had to work at Kohl's that day, so I didn't get to be there when they brought her home. Grr. On the plus side, a co-worker who's hubby is undergoing chemo told me about FMLA paperwork, so I'll try to get that filled out at work. That should keep me from getting any strikes due to absences.)
They found bacteria in my mom's wound and so she's been prescribed IV antibiotics. I kinda' wish she was still in the hospital, because then she would be under the hospital's care for the IV line.
I was reading instructions on that IV line and you really have to keep that thing clean. Super super clean. The paper mentioned scrubbing your hands with a nail brush, using antibacterial soap, hand sanitizer AND gloves.
Joy.
Also found out what bacteria was in the bedsore; E-Coli and Staph. Whoot. (>_<)
Plus she wasn't eating much, as she said the hospital food was too salty. And the last couple of days she had nausea. (I'm wondering if the nausea was/is due to the antibiotics or if it was that they were giving her liquid hydrocodone. She's used to the pill.
I googled the liquid a bit on my cell phone because I was at the hospital when I was trying to look it up. (I so need an iPhone or Galaxy or something that has better browsing power.) The only thing I found out was that the liquid hits faster and side effects are more prominent.
I also found a link that mentioned "a blunt dipped in liquid hydrocodone" and I sat there for about two minutes trying to think what they meant by "a blunt". *smacks forehead* D'oh!
I'll blame that on the stress and fatigue.
I still have my cough... don't know if I'm really still sick or it's all the stress. Might have to call the clinic on Monday morning.
The different nurse:
Well, my mom's usual nurse D is on vacation in Africa. (She's from Africa.) So the home health agency sent a substitute nurse. I'm not sure how much experience she's had with IV lines. She ended up with a lot of bubbles, and we spilled quite a bit trying to get all the bubbles out.
It was messy. Ended up spilling some of the antibiotics on the floor, and then using a cup to catch the rest.
But hopefully I can do it again tonight, because the nurse is only coming by once a day, but we have to do the IV meds twice a day.
I'm going to do some more googling on medication via IV line. I've seen some stuff, but I haven't a good opportunity to view everything or really google. (I'm looking for YouTube links or videos online that would show the steps better. All I have is a typewritten sheet of instructions.)
So that's the update so far...
PS
my 9 year old boy cousin wanted to see Mom's stitches, so I took a picture and sent it to him. So if anyone wants to see Mom's stitches from her flap surgery on the bedsore, just let me know.
What is it with 9 year old boys and stitches anyway?
