You know those really smart girls at school? The ones who put so much focus on academics that it seems like you can’t get close to them because you’re not a library book? Yeah, that’s Mitsuru in a nutshell. She is focused on excelling, and she doesn’t settle for anything less than perfect (which could be attributed to the fact that she was provided with nothing less than the best as a Kirijo). There’s a reason she’s the student council president and at the top of her class. It’s funny, because despite her academic focus, she is one of the more popular girls in school, and men (and sometimes women) scramble for her attention. Mitsuru seems to acknowledge her popularity, but she doesn't revel in it. There are far more important things than surrounding yourself with other people, after all. For Mitsuru, the more practical things in life such as grades, work, student council, SEES, and the Kirijo Group are more important than most everything else. She isn’t completely against having fun, as she does attend festivals, enjoy herself at the beach and go out with friends a few times. She just manages her time wisely (somehow she balances school, SEES, French and fencing flawlessly) and puts work above play (and even when she's having fun she tends to be really geeky about it, such as when she considers how profitable it is to sell food at low prices and how brilliantly movie theaters are designed. Mitsuru has the ability to be really, really geeky).
Though her exterior seems icy and closed off, Mitsuru isn’t all elegance and brains. Her upbringing was very strict and fancy, so she tends to get really awkward and flushed when she’s thrown into real life situations. She doesn’t quite understand how fast food restaurants work, and if she does get involved in a relationship of some sort, it’s likely to fluster her. She has good communication and leadership skills, but social skills are completely different.
When she does make friends, she tends to mother them and push them to be the best they can be, and while she may come off as overbearing at times, she only as their well-being in mind. She appreciates her friends and teammates very much and has no problem expression this appreciation, and if she's really close to someone, she might even be able to tease them juuuust a bit. She eases up a lot and is less closed off with people she trusts and feels like she can confide in, and her more dorky side comes out the more she knows someone.
She’s also a very emotional girl, despite the fact that she tries her best not to show it. In front of others, she’ll keep on a strong façade, but emotionally draining things really do affect her deeply. She went through a huge bout of depression after her father died, wondering whether it was worth it to clean up the Kirijo Group if she was the last one alive, and it took Yukari’s insistence that there was something to fight for in order for her to toughen up and continue on.
Sometimes, Mitsuru feels chained by her family name. She feels obligated to clean up the mess her grandfather made and look out for the good of the company, even at the cost of her own happiness. She rebels in small, modest ways (like buying a motorcycle) but she never really seems to have the heart to cut her ties with the Group completely (despite talking about it sometimes, though only with Minato). She’s actually in an arranged marriage with a man from another company, but by the end of the game she breaks that off because he didn’t care about her or her happiness. She eventually learns to balance her responsibilities as the heir to the Group and her own well-being as she realizes that there is a way to both restore the Kirijo name and do things that make her happy.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths:
* Intelligence. Mitsuru is a very intelligent person, not only when it comes to academics, but with battle strategies as well. She's very focused when it comes to fighting and has the ability to come up with good plans and strategies.
* Maturity. Mitsuru is... incredibly mature about a lot of things.
* Focus. She has the ability to keep her head on straight in certain stressful situations (thought admittedly there are a few she can't handle, such as the death of her father), and once she's put her mind toward a goal, she does her best to achieve it.
* Reliability. Mitsuru takes her responsibilities very seriously, and if she makes a promise to someone, she will keep it until the very end.
* Perfectionism. Having been exposed to the perfect as a child, Mitsuru strives to do everything to the best of her ability.
Weaknesses:
WEAKNESS TO FIRE
* Mitsuru's main weakness is truly her sense of duty. While it makes her loyal, it also prevents her from really enjoying things and seeking out things that make her happy. It causes her to long for freedom from the other side, and makes her want things she is certain she can't have due to her status as a Kirijo. While this is something she comes to terms with in her social link, I plan on taking her before this, so it's still very relevant to her character. In addition to this, she has two other main weaknesses.
* Perfectionism. Sometimes she gets entirely too focused on what she 'should do' that she doesn't focus on what's best for her.
* Social awkwardness. She comes off as so closed off that she might intimidate people at times, and her unfamiliarity with common and well-known customs makes her very awkward in social situations.

Samples
First Person Sample: This is Mitsuru Kirijo speaking, attempting to get in contact with the local police force as quickly as possible. It seems I have been... kidnapped by very creative kidnappers, and I wish to call for assistance. I admit this is a very elaborate ruse, but no matter how humorously they have attempted to treat this situation, it is still very blatantly illegal. I assure you, I don't find this funny at all.
Unfortunately, I can't provide any details on who my kidnappers are. The only one I saw was a woman in her mid-forties, and she seemed to insist on me calling her mother. She has dark hair which is cropped short, green eyes, and she wore a brown dress with an apron draped over the front. I'm unsure where she is now, but hopefully the description will help the officials track her down.
I seem to be alone at the moment other than this strange seal creature that insists on following me and I don't recognize my surroundings. It seems to be called 'New Bark,' though I'm unsure where that is in relation to Iwatodai, which is where my home resides.
... thankfully, I am unharmed, though I have no Earthly idea what the kidnappers' intentions might have been. I implore you, please send help as soon as possible.
Third Person Sample: Kidnapped.
Kidnapped.
If Mitsuru wanted to be technical, she had been kidnapped once before. The circumstances surrounding that situation were far more dire though, and back then Ikutsuki hadn't given her (or the rest of SEES) the ability to roam around freely. That didn't prevent her from getting flustered after waking up in a bed that was decidedly not her own, of course. Kidnapping wasn't something you got used to.
She had taken a few deep breaths to calm herself so she wouldn't panic as she oriented herself to her new surroundings. If she wanted to get out of this alive and unharmed, she needed to keep her wits about her. It was jarring, sure, but she had fought her way through the Dark Hour. This was nothing she couldn't handle.
The dark-haired woman who called herself her mother startled her more than the kidnapping itself did, though thankfully it didn't take much for Mitsuru to free herself form the strange woman's unnerving kindness. She made sure to make note of the woman's appearance as well. She was certain the authorities would want as much information on her kidnappers as possible, and she wanted to help them out as much as she could so they could catch whoever was responsible for this and send her home.
The new and unfamiliar city was also jarring, but not unexpected. Mitsuru managed to keep herself from reacting as she hastily walked down the road and fiddled with the strange contraption she had found on her person inside the the house. In fact, she was so focused on figuring the device out that she didn't notice the strange, white creature following her until it spoke up.
"Seel!"
The redhead froze. Then she slowly turned around to face the strange creature, who was smiling goofily up at her as it flapped its fins.
Whoever kidnapped her certainly had the worst sense of humor imaginable.
