[Mitsuru wastes absolutely no time getting to the point of her phone call, her tone crisp to match the curtness of her message]

I would like to speak with someone in law enforcement as soon as possible, please.

[ ironically, she has no idea they're in the same town. ]

It doesn't look like there is one in this town.

Then I'd like to speak with someone who can get me in contact with law enforcement from the next town over. It's urgent.

Unfortunately, I just arrived here, so I don't think I'll be able to offer you that much help.

-- you have been kidnapped as well? [there go her ideas of it being either a Kirijo Group or SEES related kidnapping]

Eh? If this is a kidnapper's work, I think they'll--

[ and "SEEL!" blares over the feed, loud and demanding. ]

[happy to hear the voice of one of her own kind, Mitsuru's Seel quickly barks back, though her tone is much softer and less demanding]

... I see you have one as well.

[ there's a sigh on her end, though Asuka's Seel tones down her own bark to a softer volume in greeting. ]

Does yours insist on following you?

Despite my insistence to the contrary... she does.

Maybe it's some sort of trait. I don't think this terrain is that good for them.

[ and her Seel starts... gallumphing in search of her fellow sea lion. ]

[Thankfully Mitsuru's Seel is patient and calm, so she settles for sticking close to her trainer's heels as they travel down the main road in New Bark ]

I cannot quite tell what species it is, either. It looks like a seal, and yet it is distinctly different from one.

[ Thankfully Asuka is patient and calm, so she's just following her Pokémon. ]

The device I had with me called it a "Sea Lion Pokémon". It reminds me more of some combination between a seal and a walrus, though.

-- Pokémon? I can't say I'm familiar with the terminology.

They're the animals of this world, in a sense. They're meant to be used as companions or pets or for battling, and there are at least one hundred and fifty different species, with more being discovered.

[ someone's been doing research. ]

You sound quite knowledgeable, though the implications of the phrase 'this world' are far from comforting.

[she is keeping her cool but inwardly OMG WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'THIS WORLD']

[ has been stuck in different worlds one too many times, but belatedly remembering this might not be the case for this girl. ]

This might just be my own situation, but from what I've been able to find out, this region is called "Johto". None of the natives know about Domino City, or Japan or my college in America. And these creatures are ones I've never encountered before. Of course, it could all be due to ignorance.
