Some favorite gen short stories from 2014 (and the hardest part here was to chose just 5).
Any bad English in summaries is mine and shouldn't be blamed on fic authors.
Building Character by
beer-good-foamy (Ensemble, PG-13). Unusual version of "Buffy came back wrong" and at the same time - genial meta-story about writing fanfiction. In order to fix Buffy scoobies are "rewriting" her backstory.
On This Side of Goodbye by
dragonyphoenix (Faith, Giles, PG-13). A bit of rewriting of Giles' arc from the comics with the most wonderful Faith and Giles interaction I've ever seen. (And no, no knowledge of Buffy comics is necessary to enjoy this story.)
Civilian by
velvetwhip (Willow, Riley, PG-13). Willow turns the corner in Istanbul, and here he is... not Oz, obviously, but who minds when Gabrielle writes Willow and Riley interaction so well.
Chorus by
perpetual (Oz, G). Years after Sunnydale, Oz reconnects with the one person who changed everything for him - and it's not who you're thinking.
Out of the Grey by
eclectic-tongue (Angel, Spike, Willow, PG-13). Brilliant remix of Gabrielle's story where Willow is taking care of newly souled Spike. Besides, that's probably the best portrayal of crazy!Spike I've ever read.
