Okay....there is just soooo much good fiction out there (old and new) but to narrow it to my top 5 I had to choose the ones that I just keep going back to again and again. These are in my favorites and will remain there, probably forever. Every story is a gem on most of them and all are well worth rereading (many I've printed off and "illustrated" in notebooks to make sure I will always be able to reread them).
Before I list my top 5, I want to first recommend:
http://www.allaboutspike.com/ I won't count it though as it is an archive that is no longer updating although the stories already archived remain for your enjoyment. This a one very rich resource indeed.
My top five Spike fic sites:
1. The Bloodshedverse
http://www.bloodshedverse.com/authors.php?action=listDoubt this choice? Just look at the authors list! A cornacopia of goodies await. Not all are bitey if that worries you. I couldn't begin to single out a "best of" with this group, suffice to say there will be stories there to savor no matter your taste from some of the finest writers out there in fandom.
2. Loves Last Glimpse
http://www.loveslastglimpse.com/This is the home site for the epics (and some short tales as well) by the master.(..or is that mistress?) The one and only Eurydice. Want to dive in? Try "Charms of the Clarion", I defy you to find fault. Love William as well as Spike? Run, do not walk to "Legion of True Hearts" for my favorite William characterization/story in fandom. Love a lusty story with plenty of plot and voices that are dead on? Try "Promise of Frost". These are just the tip of the iceberg. Every story is a gem.
3. Speakers Corner
http://www.speaker-to-customers.me.uk/buffyverse/fiction.htm There are not enough words to describe Speaker! He is funny, he is moving, he is prolific, he is brilliant. Only a talent of his caliber could do a story like "Savage Beauty" that started as a response to a comment about lame summaries in bad fic and turn out a hoot of a story that WORKS! Spike is a Jivaro indian and Buffy is the prime minister of Iceland...yup, I said it works and the characters stay true too! Aside from his wonderful imagination (See "I Am The Walrus" and "Sunnydale Passions" for other examples or "Merry Sport" that will have you shipping Joyce and Olaf the troll!) there is his wit and mastery of the language that reaches the lyrical in "The Cloak Of Mist". I could go on and on, and we can only hope Speaker will as well.
4. Forbidden Love
http://www.angelfire.com/me4/kantayraThere are stories here that will take your breath away with their sheer beauty such as "Bliss" and "Ashes", there are stories that are brilliant in the plotting such as "Dream Girls" or "Haunted", There is the WIP "Tabula Rasa Ad Aeternum" - Co-written with Kallysten, the series, "Seventh Slayer" and "Crimson Codex" are masterpieces and there are precious few NC-17 fics that can come close to touching "Double-Spiked"! There is a reason Kantayra is so often a victim of plagerism....she's just that good.
5. The Writings of Enigmaticblue
http://www.freewebs.com/enigmaticblue/Enigmatic_Blue is one of the writers you can always count on for true to character stories that compel from the first paragraph. Every story is a winner. Her WIPs are always on schedule and never abandoned. Want to dip your feet in? Try "The Great Advantage Of Being Alive" or "Cast Me Not Away". My first exposure was "Normal's A Place In Illinois". Try "Et Lux In Tenebris Lucet" (And the Light Shineth in the Darkness)and see how awards are earned, not just won. "Confluents" had me glued to the screen till I was cross-eyed. Don't neglect her shorter stories either. Her current WIPs are making "Must read net" days for many people, they are "Avocation" and "Collide". Her characters are always perfectly in tune with canon even when the stories vere off (and there is always a logical reason for that vering too).
I could list so many others like Ripe Wicked Plum and Nautibitz that are just classic stories from classy writers but this is a top five.....*****sigh, so little time, so many good stories*****...
