Home at last

I pulled the car into the driveway. "Thanks for coming in with me" I said to Rupert as I unbuckled and got my purse out of the glove compartment. "And thanks for the coffee. It was great to just let me hair down like that."

"Oh, any time Joyce. Like I said, I've been feeling a bit at a loose end myself lately, it'd been good to catch up."

We hopped out of the car and headed up the path. I hesitated before turning the doorknob. I didn't want to go inside to an empty house. Willow had done a great job looking after Dawn, she wasn't to know that Dawn would run off. I'm glad she went out with some friends, keeping her mind off things. I just wish I had the same luxury.

Rupert much have noticed my hesitation. "I'm sure they're home," he said. "I can see movement in the upstairs windows."

Steeling my nerves, I opened the door.

"Buffy? Dawn?" I called out as I crossed the threshold.
