Here's what my not awesome Saturday has consisted of so far:
-Paying bills (and playing the weekly game where I go through the rather large stack of bills and decide which ones are the most urgent, because I certainly don't have enough to pay them all. This week cell phone and water won because both were about to be turned off. I just got a warning about the cable in the mail too, and power isn't far behind, so there goes my whole next paycheck)
-Groceries (what's up with fruit and meat expiring so fast? Casey was asking for pineapple so I got some and it only had 3 days left until it expired, so of course she didn't eat it in time and it went bad. Got more the next week and the same thing happened. So this week I decided it was all Walmart's fault and went to Publix instead - which is more expensive - and had the same result. And then I went to get some meat and the best I could find expires on Monday. TWO DAYS? That's the best they can do? Maybe I'm shopping on the wrong day or something. Anyway, I opted not to get the pineapple because it would just go to waste again and I didn't have enough money for everything on my list anyway, and I'll just have to use the meat ASAP)
-Laundry (except I just ran out of dryer sheets cause I forgot to put them on the list, so even though I JUST got groceries, I have to go back and out and get more)
-Trying to activate the epass sticker I bought months ago, but the website was giving me a hard time and of course they are only open Monday - Friday so I can't call anyone.
-Trying to set up an account on the website for the child support enforcement company I use, but once again not being allowed to, and I believe this is another weekday operation.
-Taking Casey to volunteer at a Special Olympics bowling tournament, which is great, but it was 30 miles away on toll roads (which is why I tried to activate the epass. With drop off and pick up, tolls were about $14) so I wish the youth group had arranged for a bus or at least carpooling. And she was supposed to be there for 5 1/2 hours, but called me after 2 1/2 to say she was ready to leave. That's barely worth all the effort to get her there.
-Running toll booths and praying I don't get tickets in the mail for it. When we first headed out to the bowling alley, I got on the roll road and then realized I had no cash, so I had to run a toll, exit and drive for a while to look for somewhere to get cash (and we were already late because Casey took forever to get up and ready), finally finding an ATM that charged a $2.50 fee (plus my bank will charge $2), but whatever. I then had to run another toll because it cost $1 to get back on the highway and it was an exact change only booth and all I had was the $20 I'd just gotten out. And I believe there was another exact change booth that got me later. I don't know, too many toll booths today, they are all blending together in my brain.
-Taking Casey to a band competition so she could watch her friends play. She asked if she could go straight there from the bowling thing, and it was kind of on the way so whatever (still on toll roads, natch). We get there and find out it's $10 to get in, and since the $20 I got earlier was gone (tolls and a drive thru lunch) I had to stop at another ATM, this one charging $3.50. I'm also a little uncomfortable because this isn't the safest place in the world (Citrus Bowl), so I hope I didn't make a mistake letting her go there alone. I mean, it's day time and it's just a band competition so it's a bunch of moms and band geeks, but it's not in a great neighborhood. I told her to find her people fast and stick with them. And of course she is currently ignoring my texts, but that's not uncommon for her.
-Stopping for gas in a bad part of town because the only other option was possibly running out of gas in a bad part of town. I'd used it all up driving Casey all over town and it was below the E. I didn't die though, so that's good.
-Currently, listening to some kind of creature scratch around just above my ceiling. Or the neighbor's, it's kind of in that part where our houses connect, so I'm hoping the critter control people did their job a few years ago and are keeping him out of my attic and contained to theirs. Actually no, the sounds I just heard were definitely in my attic, just above my bed. Great.
-The menu button fell off my cell phone, so it looks shitty and is harder to use, and I don't have any superglue to try and fix it.
But I did get myself some Twisty Treat ice cream, which is not going to help my ass get any smaller, but it did make me feel better. Now to color my hair and watch Dexter.
