What up?

Tuesday was my 36th birthday, but I didn't do anything special that day. Just worked (they did decorate my cubicle) and took Casey to her piano lesson and Girl Scout meeting. Also dealt with back pain that had suddenly shown up that day, probably a result of the accident. But I took lots of ibuprofen, and after I dropped Casey and Danielle off at Girl Scouts (Christine would pick them up), I went home and took a bubble bath and then put on an icy/hot patch. I had planned to go to the doctor the next morning, but woke up with the pain almost completely gone so I skipped it.

Thursday we went to an employee preview of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. The earliest one was 9PM, but we went anyway, and it was totally packed. The movie was awesome. Really bizarre and probably not for everyone, but we loved it It's Casey's new favorite, and for me it's definitely way up there. And since we've got Michael Cera fever lately, I think I'm going to show her Arrested Development via Netflix soon.

Friday I met Rose, April and Tara at Olive Garden to celebrate Rose's birthday. I had a couple of hours to kill between work and dinner (too far to drive home), so I put some gas in the car and then went to Target... got Rose a card and a gift card and then sat in the cafe' and read for a while. Dinner was great, but it's Olive Garden so of course it was.

Saturday we had to get up early so I could drop Casey off at the church. She went with the youth group to volunteer at a Women and Children's shelter. While she was there I was home doing laundry and paying bills, and then when she got home we had some lunch (leftover OG) and watched 17 Again, which was very cute despite the fact that Zac Efron growing up to be Matthew Perry is weird. And then we went to work at her Girl Scout troop's yard sale. It was actually all day... the girls were supposed to be there from 7-5, but I'd told the leader she wouldn't be there until 1 due to the volunteer shift. She got home earlier than planned but I let her rest until 1 anyway because she was really worn out. Friday the troop had spent the day organizing and pricing everything, and also delivering newsletters all over the neighborhood (they got paid $150 as a trooop for that... that and the yard sale are in effort to raise money for a trip to England in 2013), and then of course she had a busy Saturday morning too. The parents were needed at the yard sale because their leader couldn't be there due to a council meeting or something. It was absolute torture. I'm not sure what the heat index was yesterday, but today it's 107 and I don't think it's any hotter. There was practically no shade, the only relief being a giant fan Christine's boyfriend had provided, so when I felt the heat really getting to me I'd just go stand in front of it for a few minutes. It's a terrible time of year for a yard sale, I don't know why they decided to do it now. And after all that work, they only made about $200, which is certainly not worth the work and sweat the girls put into it. But their leader was thrilled, and treated them all to Cici's for dinner. I had Christine take Casey for me because I had plans and couldn't join them.

So, I left Casey there and went home to peel my sweaty clothes off and take a badly needed shower, and then I went to Bar Louie for my birthday celebration. April, Rose, Jean, Scott, Mary, Tara and her friend Stephanie (who I'd never met) came. Jean and Scott bought my dinner (a delicious cuban flatbread sandiwch and some yummy tots) and gave me strawberry wine and a very cute wine glass to drink it out of. I'm enjoying both of those things right now. April gave me gift cards for Chili's/Macaroni Grill and Cold Stone Creamery. I was home by around 11:00 and found that Casey was still hanging out with Christine and Danielle, so I called her and told her to come home and go to bed. After Cici's they'd finished delivering newsletters and then hung out at her house for a while.

Today we went to church and then Dennys with my parents, and then my mom took Casey shopping for some more back to school clothes. Jae had gotten her a lot of stuff, but Casey claimed she still needed jeans and my mom had a Kohl's gift card.

This afternoon we went to a park called Mickey's Retreat for the youth group's end of summer party. I was on my own because Casey didn't want me anywhere near her (was mortified in fact that I had come at all, ha ha) and I didn't know any of the few other parents that had come, but that was okay. I really only went because Mickey's Retreat is usually only for Disney employees, and they have a nice pool. I stayed just long enough for a couple of dips in the pool, some time in the sun with my book and iPod, and some lunch, and then I left Casey there, and I actually have to leave to go get her in a minute. I'm exhausted after a long weekend, but forced myself to go out and get groceries. Once I get Casey home it's time to relax for the rest of the evening. I do have to keep up with the laundry, but otherwise I think it's time for some TV and strawberry wine.

17 again, health, birthday, mary, girl scouts, movies, scott pilgrim, april, jean, car accident, youth group, volunteer, rose
