Friday after work I went to Bar Louie for happy hour with Amy, April, Rose, Jim, Beth, Tara and Tara's boyfriend. Had a Diva martini (something with pineapple and something.. nummy, tasted kind of like cherry koolaid with a kick to it) and some dinner and then we all headed out at around 8:30. Shortly after I got home I took Casey to the bowling alley for some late night bowling with the youth group. The church bulletin said it was 10 - 12, but when I showed up at 12 and texted her, she said they were still in the middle of a game. I guess I had to learn the hard way that youth group events never end on time and I should wait for her to contact me before going to pick her up. She said she'd get a ride home with one of the adults, and ended up getting home about 1/2 hour after I did.
Saturday I slept until almost 11, which was rare and nice. A little bit later we went to visit my brother for hair cuts (for her it was just the bangs, for my future reference). And then I dropped her off at an end of year pool party/cook out some of her friends were having. Went home to work on bills, got some groceries, etc. And then we were supposed to meet the family at a Mexican restaurant for my mom's birthday dinner. But Casey, who had said she had a ride home, didn't come home on time and wouldn't answer her cell. I angrily drove to the party and found her there, waiting for me (had texted her that I was coming). Told her to get in the car NOW and gave her an earful on the way to the restaurant (brought a change of clothes that ended up being too small, but oh well). Turns out, Brandon's mom was supposed to take her home. They'd told her they'd be leaving in 20 minutes, which would have gotten her home on time. And then she went swimming, lost track of time, and the next thing she knew it was much later. Turned out Brandon had decided to stay longer, and despite knowing she had to leave by a certain time, didn't tell her that. I told her it was still her responsibility to make sure she gets home when she is supposed to, and made her apologize to my mom when we got there (I'm sure she would have anyway). But as it turned out, even though we were 1/2 hour late, they had just sat down when we got there. Guess there had been a wait to get a table. So we ate with my parents, brother, aunt, and my cousin and his wife and son, and then we all went back to my parents' house for birthday cake. I gave my mom flowers, a Hoops and Yoyo card, and some money towards dinner. We hung out there until around 10.
Today we went to church and Dennys with my parents, and then my mom took Casey shopping for some last minute camp needs (board shorts, a mesh bag for washing her dishes and a disposable camera, since no electronics such as digital cameras or cell phones are allowed). She came home and packed, and then my parents picked us up and we all took her to Girl Scout surf camp together. My parents had decided they wanted to come and see what the camp was like, which worked for me because I didn't have to use the gas required to drive the hour each way or pay tolls, plus I had company for the ride home. The camp site is really small, but nice. It's on Merritt Island, by Cocoa Beach, and consists of one 2-story cabin with 4 or 5 rooms. There were only be 9 campers signed up for this session (all high school age), which really pleased Casey. She prefers a smaller group. I'm sure it will allow for a closer group, and she's probably already made some new friends by now. I think she's going to have a blast. She'll be there until Friday. My aunt Teresa is actually coming to visit next week, so we've decided the two of us are going to spend Friday at Cocoa Beach and pick her up while we're there. Can't wait... I love the beach, and it's been far too long since I was there last.
