I'm working my way through your posts tonight (about 80 to go in the journals only feed), but I saw this Christmas meme and realized it's been a while since I did a meme of any kind, so what the heck? Here goes.
1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
Wrapping paper looks better and is more fun to open, but it's also time consuming and I'm busy as hell, especially in December, so I usually just use gift bags. Unless there's concern about peeking (like with Casey's gifts). Then I wrap.
2. Real tree or Artificial?
Fake. I have never had a real tree. Not sure it would be so great for my allergies, and they seem like a huge pain in the ass anyway. For a long time I had an old tree from my childhood that my parents gave me when they got a new one, but a year or two ago my mom bought me a new one in an after Christmas sale - one of those with the lights aleady on it. So much easier.
3. When do you put up the tree?
After Thanksgiving. Most years I'm out of town for Thanksgiving, so it's usually the next available weekend day after I get back.
4.When do you take the tree down?
After New Years, when I have time.
5. Do you like egg nog?
Yeah. I think I tried it for the first time like a year ago and I really liked it.
6. Favorite gift received as a child?
I don't remember. Shows how much of an impact things have. Because what I do remember is the important stuff like spending time with my family, though I know that sounds cheesy.
7. Hardest person to buy for?
My parents. They don't really have hobbies, and they just buy whatever they want. Even gift cards sometimes go unused.
8. Easiest person to buy for?
My brother because he has an Amazon Wish List (I had Casey start one this year too). I just pull it up and order a couple of things from it. Though it IS hard if I try printing the list and looking for gifts at the store (if there's not enough time for shipping or I just don't want to pay the extra) because he has really obscure taste in books, music and movies, and I have no idea what most of the stuff on his list even is.
9. Do you have a nativity scene?
Yes, a little one that we set up in the house every year.
10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail. But email cards would be easier and cheaper. Hm... next year maybe.
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
When I was living with Josh, he told me I would be getting a really expensive, awesome gift that year. I thought for sure it was an engagement ring, and so did my family. Turned out to be a promise to take me on a cruise if I lost a certain amount of weight (never happened because we broke up like 4 months later). So I had all these family members calling me and expecting a big engagement story and I had to tell them what it really was. In his defense it wasn't a douchey thing like "Hey fat ass, lose some weight or no gifty for you!". I'd made it clear that I did want to lose weight and he was just trying to be helpful, but wow that was pretty shitty all the same.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Elf, with Jim Carrey's Grinch a close second.
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
It varies, but is usually pretty last minute. This year I tried to plan it out in a way that would be the least painful on my checking account by getting a gift or two a week in the months leading up to Christmas. But then every week I'd put it off because I was broke and next thing you know I'm buying everything with one paycheck and hoping to pay the bills with the next one.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Not that I recall.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
My aunt makes this cream cheese fruit salad thing that is amazing. And oh, peanut butter Christmas trees!
16. Lights on the tree?
Yeah, like I said I have one with the lights already on it.
17. Favorite Christmas song?
O Holy Night, particularly when Josh Groban sings it.
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Travel a mile to my parents' house, LOL. Christmas Eve is at my aunt's house, but that's still only like 10 miles (I still always want to say "my aunt and uncle's house", even though Uncle Bob died a year and a half ago. Still getting used to that. Miss him).
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?
Yep
20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
A colorful light up star
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
Mostly Christmas morning. We always go to my aunt's house Christmas eve and she will usually give us a present to open there. Also Casey always tries to talk me into letting her open one gift on Christmas Eve. This year I told her she probably shouldn't since I only got her like 4 things. Times are tough, plus the things I got are a little on the pricey side.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
Being mind-numbingly busy. I'm a pretty busy person in general, but add gift buying and wrapping and cards to send and decorations and work events and parties, etc. and my head nearly explodes every December. Also having to somehow buy Christmas gifts AND pay the mortgage. Couldn't they just declare a law waving rent and mortgage bills on January 1st?
23. Favorite ornament, theme, or color?
I love blue and purple lights. Not that I actually own any (I have multi-colored), but I love seeing them on other houses and trees.
24. Favorite for Christmas Dinner?
We always have the turkey I get free from work since it's too small to use for Thanksgiving and we have less people for Christmas.
25. What do you want for Christmas this year?
I desperately want season tickets to the theater, but those are really expensive so I've asked for gift certificates so we can maybe see a show or two this year. I so love going, but there's no way I can afford even one show.
