Not quite a year after buying it, I'm laying my car to rest. The engine is shot and replacing it would cost more than twice what I paid for the car. So we can look at it like a rental car I had for a very long time. Not sure what I'm going to do now. I have my dad's car today and tomorrow, and I'll probably have to look into renting something until I can find a very cheap used car. This time I'll have my mechanic look at it before I buy it, not that it would have made a difference this time. That car was just in the shop a week ago and they could find nothing wrong with it. Now he says there was probably an internal leak or something. So, you know, it sucks a lot, but what can you do?
On a better note, we had our department holiday lunch today and it was lovely. Really good food, lots of laughs, and Sharon, Deb and I gave everyone a preview of our caroling by singing Oh Holy Night for everyone. Amy (our star, her voice is amazing) was there but refused to sing. She has the worst stage fright, which is crazy considering how talented she is. She'll do it at our actual performance next Tuesday, but she can't stand being put on the spot.
We got our final Secret Santa gifts today and found out who we had. Mine was Joyce, a really sweet little Filipino lady. I had no clue. She gave me a purse, which is good because mine was falling apart. During the time we were leaving gifts on each other's desks she only left me one thing, a set with some perfume, soap and lotion. But whatever, I know she doesn't have a lot of money and anyway, my favorite part was really shopping for Sharon's gifts.
Finally got my H1N1 shot this morning at the clinic at work. Now I just have to drag Casey kicking and screaming to get one. Seriously it did not hurt a bit, but she doesn't believe me.
Tonight I went to a sneak preview of the Brendan Fraser/Harrison Ford/Keri Russell movie
Extraordinary Measures with Amy, Carmen, Jean and Julie. It was really good. Sad, charming, funny, and heartwarming all at once. The movie was free and they gave us tickets for free drinks, but the odd thing was, you HAD to use them for alcohol. I just wanted a soda, but no. I didn't feel like drinking a daiquiri or beer or whatever, so I just passed. What, do they want you drunk so you'll give the movie a good review? LOL. Oh well.
Had a lovely time at Universal yesterday with my parents, brother and his boyfriend Jeremy. We had great weather... not a drop of rain, high of 85 (which was nice as long as you stayed mostly in the shade), and it wasn't busy, which was good news for me as a guest and bad for me as an employee. Gotta love the short lines though. My mom actually went on a roller coaster with me, Casey and Jeremy. She usually doesn't because she worries about her back and neck getting hurt, but this is a new ride so she decided to go for it. And then afterwards she said it was never going to happen again. Ha. My brother nearly made me pee several times (he's good at doing that), especially when we rode the Mummy. He's pretty afraid of roller coasters, and the whole time he was shouting at the top of his lungs, things like "I'M NOT SCARED! I'M NOT SCARED!" and "AY YI YI YI YI!!!" and I was freaking dying. There were tears. I wish those rides took videos and not just still photos. LOL.
So anyway, here are the few pictures that were taken at Universal, and then a random one of me and Amy.
This is one of those pictures they take when you first walk into the park. I had a coupon for a free one, so we went ahead and posed. Left to right: dad, mom, brother, brother's boyfriend, me and Casey
And here they added a little something to the picture. My parents ended up buying this one (with my employee discount) because nobody could agree on which of the two they liked better.
Waiting for the Grinchmas show to start. I find this amusing because I'm laughing and Casey is looking at me like I'm weird, which is a very common thing for us. Also because there's an angry looking tattoo'd lady who needs a cheeseburger standing in the way.
Some pics my mom took in the Comics area
And here's me and Amy at Howl at the Moon Friday, featuring Carmen's bunny ears.
You know, I was planning to try and finish the 2nd Percy Jackson book tonight (it's due today and the library won't let me renew it), but I got sucked into internet land and now it's midnight. Boo.
