The Weekend

Jun 14, 2009 23:24

Friday evening consisted mainly of sloppy joes, Angel and So You Think You Can Dance.

Saturday - got up around 8, went to the store for camera batteries, Midol and donuts, stopped at the vet for doggie meds, picked Casey up and took her to dress rehearsal for her recital. I video-taped it because I didn't want to watch the actual performance through a camera screen and I'm still not sure if they'll be selling DVDs (they taped it and told me they'd sell it if it comes out okay). The video from rehearsal ended up being too big for Photobucket, so I can't post it here, plus she really didn't want me sharing that one because she says she messed up a lot and would do better in the real show, and yeah she did do better then. So hopefully I'll get a copy of the actual performance and it will be in some kind of postable format so I can share.

After dress rehearsal we went to Target to pick out Father's Day cards and so she could get her friend Anna's birthday present (party is Thursday). We had lunch in the cafe' there, and then I dropped her off at Brianna's house so she could go to her dress rehearsal since she couldn't go to the recital, hers being the same time (Bri couldn't make Casey's, so we'll have to show her the video). I went home and worked on laundry, balanced my checkbook, and did a little cleaning while trying to get caught up on season 1 of True Blood. I think I have 1 1/2 episodes left, and the new season started tonight. My dad's been taping it for me since I don't have HBO. I like it. Can't wait to finish this season and find out who the killer is. I've been watching it any time Casey isn't around since it's wildly inappropriate for her.

I eventually headed out for groceries. I tried to get my free Moviebox rental, but it turns out the store near me that was supposed to have it switched it out for Redbox because they always had trouble with the machine. So later I just signed up with Redbox instead, and they also offer a free rental. I'm in no hurry to get it though, we have enough to watch these days. I do have Netflix, but I only do one rental at a time with them and right now we're trying to finish the Angel series (we're almost done with season 3).

Casey came home at around 8 PM and announced that she was done with Hip Hop and wanted to go to Bri's dance school and take Lyrical. I don't really know what that is, but she says it's like contemporary, which I'm only familiar with from watching So You Think You Can Dance, and I love it on there. It's kind of like ballet, but more dramatic and usually tells a story through movement. We know this dance school because Casey went there when she was little. The good thing is it's right around the corner, which is way better than the 20 minute drive I've been doing every week for this class. The bad news is, they don't let you take anything without also taking ballet. So that would be 2 classes instead of one I have to pay for, and 2 costumes for the recital every year. So I'm going to have to look into that and think about it.

In other artistic Casey news, she's been participating in a song writer's group at summer camp and really enjoying it. They have a little studio and everything, and at the end of the summer they get to take a CD home of everything they did. It's taught by a guy who teaches 8th grade social studies. She's really hoping to get him next year because he's one of those cool teachers all the kids love. He brings his guitar to class and teaches them through song. Anyway, he told her that if she brought her guitar to camp he'd teach her how to play, so they'll start that tomorrow. Very cool.

Sunday - We went to church with my parents, and then Casey didn't want to go to breakfast with us because she was nervous about her recital and wanted ample time to get ready and couldn't eat because she didn't want to puke, etc. So I dropped her off at home and met my parents at Perkins and had some blueberry pancakes. Went home and relaxed a bit with Casey, and then headed to the recital. She had to be there 1 1/2 hours early, so I dropped her off and went to Barnes and Noble to get my dad a copy of Facebook for Dummies for Father's Day. We'll get him something else too, I just don't know what yet. And we have to get Casey's dad something as well.

The recital was good. My parents and Casey's step-mom came (dad is out of town). It was fairly short (just under 2 hours), which was good because the A/C was out. Let me say that again. THE A/C WAS OUT! You guys, it's like 100 degrees here lately, and the show was in the afternoon. We were all a sweaty mess. Imagine how the dancers felt! At least we were just sitting on our butts. The show itself was pretty good... they had some teen singers performing in between dance numbers, and they were all amazing. Seriously. I got chills every time. Turns out they are all performing in that company's upcoming High School Musical II show. We weren't terribly impressed by most of the dance numbers, but Casey's was great and she danced it well (what? I'm not biased. At least I didn't say she was the best dancer in her class like my mom did, LOL). Her teacher performed in two numbers of her own and holy crap is she a fantastic hip hop dancer. Like, she could easily do it professionally.

After the show we all went to Too Jays for dinner. It was the first time I'd eaten there. I had a meatloaf melt that was very yummy. Half of it is in the fridge waiting for lunch tomorrow.

And then we came home and watched a depressing Magic game I don't want to talk about. There's always next year, right?

Oh lookie, it's midnight. Gotta be up in 7 hours. Night.
