What a great weekend I just had. Being off from my 2nd job, having time to myself while Casey was out of town, and spending time with my amazing friends and family for my birthday. It was really great!

I didn't get nearly as much accomplished yesterday as I'd planned. But it was my birthday, so nyah. I slept until 10, read in bed for 1/2 hour, worked on laundry, balanced my checkbook, and got crickets and groceries. As I was loading up my trunk in the Walmart parking lot, Casey called and said they were almost back from their trip. So I ran home, quickly put away the cold stuff (I got ice cream and then waited in line for 1/2 hour - GR Walmart - so it was already pretty soupy by the time I got it home) and headed to her school to pick her up.

She was kind of disappointed by the trip, and said it didn't live up to her expectations after planning it for 2 years. But she had fun anyway.

When we got home she gave me my birthday gift, which had been hidden in her room for the last week or so. It was a gift card to the movies and the Mama Mia soundtrack. The idea being to go see that movie, of course (it's for $25, so I can use it more than once too). I love it. My mom helped her get it, and she knows how much I love musicals, and how I always want the soundtrack after I see one I really like. I had told everyone that the best gift idea for me was the chance to do something fun with Casey, like going to the movies, because I can't afford to do that much lately. My friends gave me a couple of gift cards to restaurants, Christine gave me an American Express gift card I can use on whatever I want (I need clothes. I'm thinking a trip to Ross, or somewhere with good prices like that, is in order), and my brother gave me a gift card for Amazon.com. I have no clue what I want to get with that, but I'm psyched. I'll have to think it over.

Anyway, I had Casey take a shower while I finished putting away the groceries and worked some more on laundry, and then we relaxed for a few minutes before heading over to my parents' house. My brother met us there and colored Casey's hair brown. He's supposed to do the highlights sometime in the next few days. I don't even think he needs to. Because she already had highlights, the brown came out in different shades, so it looks good the way it is. She thinks it's too light. It's called caramel brown, and seems to have kind of a reddish tint to it. I like it on her.

After he finished her hair we all went out to eat for my birthday. I chose to go to BJs again for a couple of reasons. I was trying to think of something new and not the same places we always go, and I wanted to show them the place because they have excellent food. Well, it turns out my parents had gone there Saturday night. They were there at the same time I was, in the same section even, and nobody noticed (they know a few of my friends that were with me too). Weird! But they said they didn't mind going again, so we did. It was my brother's first time there, and he was so impressed with the food that he ordered a second meal to take home with him.

We went back to my parents' house for birthday cake, and then headed home to watch the So You Think You Can Dance finale. I'd already been spoiled on the winner (thanks so much, Heather Armstrong), so I wasn't as surprised as I would have been. But hey, all 4 of them are brilliant, so it's all good. Great finale too.

Today my dad is supposed to be taking Casey out to lunch and then to see Hancock. Lucky. I want to see it too! After that she's supposed to be working on getting her room clean. I'm going to try and work 10 hour shifts for the next few days (after that I would run into OT) because I don't have enough paid time off to cover having Thursday and Friday off for my trip to Georgia. Oh well, I'm just happy to have another weekend off from Discovery Cove.
