"Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate! AAAAACK"

I recently picked up one of those free recipe books from Publix, this one featuring casseroles, and last night I made a chicken and rice one. It came out pretty yeck. I was trying to do half of the recipe and it just didn't work out so well. I hate spending so much time working on dinner, only to end up throwing most of it out, and then you STILL have to clean all those dishes you used. What a waste. I have yet to receive another issue of Cooking For 2 magazine since my first one in December. It only comes out 4 times a year, but I definitely should have gotten another one by now. I emailed them yesterday.

Casey got a birthday present in the mail from our aunt and uncle in North Carolina yesterday... a heart shaped digital photo keychain/necklace. She loves it. We had to charge it for 5 hours before she could use it, which meant until midnight, and she begged me to let her stay up so she could put pictures on it right away and wear it to school today. I told her no way of course, but got her up 15 minutes early today so she'd have some time.

I'm thrilled that The Office, Scrubs and 30 Rock are all back with new episodes now, but wasn't terribly impressed with last night's batch. I mean yes, I liked them all... they are always great shows. But none of them will be on my list of favorites. Well, I don't know... 30 Rock was pretty awesome (my entry title is from it, btw). The Office made me too uncomfortable.

It's picture day at school today, and I have hopes of getting a decent picture since Casey suddenly cares about her appearance. I couldn't get her to follow any of my advice though. She insisted on wearing a white shirt (you know they say you should wear bright colors. Why is that? It just comes out better?) and a ponytail. She still does ponytails like she did in her tomboy days, but they are much fancier now and they have to be perfect, LOL. I told her they would be a bad idea in picture because it looks like you have no hair, but she's going to pull it to the side, over her shoulder. I still think it would be better if she wore it down with a headband or something. But what do I know, right? Whatever.

Reports cards come home today, but thanks to the progressbook website I already know what to expect - a C in math, for no reason other than that she didn't bother to turn in the work she missed when she was out sick, and As in everything else. SIGH, it will have to do. I told her I would be okay with a C if she was struggling or didn't understand the work or something, but this is for dumb reasons and it is simply not acceptable. Oh well, she started a new grading period this week, so let's hope it will be better this time.

Weekend plans:

My cousin Bobby is visiting from Washington, so we're going with her, my parents and my Aunt Ann and Uncle Bob (her parents - they live here) to Olive Garden for dinner tonight.

Tomorrow Casey has gymnastics for the first time in forever, and then that afternoon is her birthday party at my parents' house. It should be fun... I had planned to just have something pretty low key, but Casey wanted to do more, so she's been planning all kinds of games and events on her own... she even divided her friends into teams and told them their color in the invitation so they could dress accordingly.

Sunday is church and breakfast with my parents as usual, and then that afternoon Casey is going with her Girl Scout troop to a horse ranch. It's about time they actually did something other than the few council events they've attended this year. At the beginning of the year, the leader gave them binders filled with information for tons of trips they could go on and they were supposed to pick a few and plan them, but they haven't done a single thing (Oh, wait. They did go to Gatorland in November. Still, one thing in 9 months?). Also, I am very short on details about this horse ranch trip. I only know what Casey told me. Um... shouldn't there be an email with a permission slip or something? At first Casey told me the leader was going to email us, and then yesterday she was like "No, you have to email her that it's okay for me to go. But Christine said she'd do it for you." Uh, yeah. Christine isn't even related to Casey. How could she possibly be able to okay a field trip for her? WTF? So I just emailed Christine and the leader to find out more.

Here are some more pics from our adventures with Deb_o_rah and Vincent on their recent trip here. These are some of my favs from the ones she sent me.

Not sure why I'm smiling like a chipmunk here, but it's still a cute pic of us

Siblings

Some good ones of Casey (who actually allowed Debbie to take her pic and EVEN SMILED sometimes. That says something for sure, LOL)

Turtles (and a frog) all lined up at Gatorland

A momma bird feeding her baby. This was my favorite thing we saw at Gatorland, and it's not even part of the place. Just one of those adorable things that happen in nature and we were lucky enough to watch for a bit. There were several babies and a couple of birds feeding them. Precious!
